Re: Last statements of executed offenders

    [ QUOTE ]
I work part time at the northern california innocence project. We've had a handful of exhonerations so far. It's really great stuff. At the same time, some of the letters you read from inmates are heartbreaking. Supprising ammounts of death row inmates are getting out these days based on DNA evidence.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What's shocking is that California actually convicts people of crimes. I think to get convicted in California you have to have High Resolution Video of you commiting the crime, DNA Evidence, eye witness testimony, a confession and actually having GOD come down to the court room and say he saw it too. Even then it could get overturned.

Re: Last statements of executed offenders

No sir, to be convicted of a crime in California all you need is a public defender. I've read litterally thousands of letters from inmates who have pretty much gotten railroaded by their public defenders.

Always a lesson. If you are ever in this kind of situation, always get yourself the best lawyer you could possibly afford, no matter the cost.

Indigent defenders are always overworked and way underpaid. They can't help it if they don't do the same job as someone getting paid $500 an hour to keep your ass out of jail.

Sucks, but that is the truth.

Yes sir, Warden Okay I've been hanging around this popsicle stand way too long. Before I leave, I want to tell you all. When I die, bury me deep, lay two speakers at my feet, put some headphones on my head and rock and roll me when I'm dead. I'll see you in Heaven someday. That's all Warden.

This man speaks the truth. Over worked and underpaid means that they will convince you to plea bargain, when criminology teaches us that of those cases that go to trial something like ~11% are actually found guilty.

Make the same standards nationwide on who gets "It" in the end for capital crimes. That would take a constitutional ammendment. Good luck on that. If you're going to kill someone, just go to a state that doesn't have the death penalty. What's gas it you have a "Mission"?

Holy crap. Did you check out the photos on these guys. Pretty scary. I know they were taken under special conditions (that being just having your ass thrown in jail) but, come on, get a comb.

some of the statements make you feel bad for them, until you read their criminal records.

this one freaked me out "Jane, Grace and all of you all, I know you think I did this, and I'm sure you think this is wonderful in you eyes. But, let me tell you something, there were two DNA tests run and none matched me. I wanted a third, but that never happened. Three people at different times confessed to killing these people - your parents. They did not know me. My request is that you get yourselves in church and pray for forgiveness because you are murdering me. I did not kill anyone in my life. If you will look at your house and the police report, there are several bullet patterns shot into the West wall over the bed and the East wall and North wall and your sister was in the front bedroom while 30 shots were fired. There's no way in hell she would have laid in that bed. If you think I did this, you need to think again. There were three people in the house and have confessed to it. Larry Ashworth in Fort Worth killed seven people. All I was asking for was a DNA and I could not get it. But get in church and get right with God. Jane, you know damn well I did not molest that kid of yours. You are murdering me and I feel sorry for you. Get in church and get saved. I really don't know what else to tell you."

My parents are both attorneys and they have shown me figures that show that (prior to DNA testing) as high as 30% of executed criminals could have been innocent

Nope, don't feel sorry for him,ESPECIALLY a convicted child molester that should have NEVER been let out of prison to begin with, even on an appeal, these bastards should never be able to get out even on bail, because this is what happens.Hmm,two witnesses die that were to testify against him for the molestation charges,he also attempted to burn down their house and have his former wife killed?

Nah,no smypathy from me for animals like this joker. And DNA should never be the ONLY evidence that makes or breaks a case.

I remember hearing about some guy that was executed by lethal injection. They shot him up and his last words were "Hey, it didnt work. Im still alive" he then promply died.
