  • IPOD questions

I need to get my 16 year old son an Ipod for Christmas. It doesn't have to hold 5000 songs. He isn't into music that much. Around a 1000 songs would be more than enough. He tells me lots of kids at school have the white ones with the little screen on them. They hold around 1250 songs. What model should I be looking at? Used is more than ok.
    Thanks in advance! JG

Nano which is 4 gig ..

I have a 30 gig photo that has 3000 songs on it and that's about 11 gigs used

Yeah the nano is awesome. You can do lots more than just put songs on them too. You can upload digital photos to it, calendar stuff from Outlook, etc. Good unit. They go for about $250.00 Canadian new.

I bought 2 of the new 30 gig video Ipods. Not sure if the NANO plays vids. They go for $299, but if you go to the Apple Store site, you can get a discount if they are bought for students that attend school. They just needed to know what school the kids attend. I think the wife paid $269 each. Also, they engraved their names and ph. # on the back.

I don't want to interrupt anything, but before buying a Nano, you should read this:
          http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09...no_scratching/
          http://news.com.com/Suit+filed+over+...l?tag=nefd.top

If you buy Nano, buy also the silicon case for it.

And remember - it doesn't necessarily store 4 GB. Only the Nano's with Samsung flash have 4 GB. Toshiba flash store only 2 GB.

And if you're into IPOD, you should look up for IPOD Mini, which is - as I could read on the computer forums - more reliable than Nano.

          Good luck with the purchase!

Sad but true story. Two kids up here were walking on train tracks and got killed by the train. They were wearing earphones and didn't know it was coming. I just don't understand why people wear those things. Stupid yes. But if they weren't "plugged in" they could have heard the train a taken three steps to the left. Save yourself a lot of $$$, and buy a Creative Zen Micro (regular, or the new photo)

Same thing as an Ipod (if not better). I just bought 2, 5 gig versions for 160$ cdn (roughly 130usd) brand new! It's great, im really impressed with the build quality and sound!

Wow! I just checked eBay for Ipod minis and they're going for $250! I paid $150 for mine new at best buy... I guess they're going up coz they're not being made anymore. I really love mine. IMO best MP3 player on the market... 4gb 1000 songs... that's enough for me.

if you get the nano, they should all come with protective cases with them now. i saw something on that over the past few days.

I got the Agent 18 case for my Nano. Works great. I have the 4 gig version with like 20 full cds on it ripped at max quality along with a bunch of photos and it's still only 1/2 full.

Chase it really depends on what quality you rip your stuff at. Honestly if you use Apple Lossless conversion the iPod will be the best but that is some huge files.
