• Internet Explorer Question...

At the address/url line of the IE browser window (6.0), you know the pull down arrow that allows you to view a list of the urls that you have visited recently.

Well, out of no where, now when I click that arrow, that particular Browser window locks up and quits responding.

Rebooted a few times, Cleared cookies & files. Scanned with adaware, spybot, Windows antispyware, and webroot spysweeper, and nothing interesting came up.

Anyone ever had this come up?

And yes i use Firefox too, just wanna know what this is about.

Do you view porn regularly?
Porn sites are nortious for doing this sort of thing to browsers in general. Porn sites love to hijack browsers.
Are you keeping your software(ad-aware, spybot, virus and etc.) updated regularly to get protection against the latest exploits?

Does it happen when using firefox too?

No, although porn gets its visitation, it isn't isn't on high rotation. I'm thinking it happened from something that was on someones MySpace site that was viewed as my buddy was searching through some "myspace" profiles this morning when it started. There is so much crap on people profiles on that on that site it's amazing.

Everything is updated BTW...

Interestingly, there is no obvious hijack, just that issue. And firefox is fine.

I'm reasonably well protected with a good host file, and between MS Antispy, Zonealarm, Webroot and winpatrol, I have a good "realtime" idea of any odd things like changes and stuff like that.

I'm thinking something just got scrambled. Nothing else odd going on at all.

I'm pretty savvy with the security and spyware/scumware exploits and I'm a bit baffled on this one. hehe...

thanks for your response.

Re: Internet Explorer Question...

Might be a setting that controls how many items to display in your DropDown URL list (or History)?
I'd say find the setting and see what the number is, and then shorten it.

Sounds like a file corruption in a dll. The next time you get an hour free set the hard drive to do a through scan/fix and restart it. Might help

Re: Internet Explorer Question...

i would do a spyware scan. IE has hooks in it that allow software vendors to "inject" their code into an operation in IE. So when you do something in IE, you take a detour through Spyware software. Here you are at the mercy of how good (or not) they code and is a frequent source of IE instability.

Re: Internet Explorer Question...

Usually spyware and such attacks the more system-critical functions - Cleve's saying it only happens when he clicks his URL Drop-Down list arrow.
Sounds to me like it's a problem with displaying the info in that drop down list window rather than a hack or spyware.

Does it also lock up if you open your browser History?
