Au Contraire - Gary Ritchrath is one of the best - and most underrated - guitarists ever. True they did a few too many "girlie songs", but they've had plenty of rockers like Riding The Storm Out (live version from You Can Tuna Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish - the studio version had the old singer on it and he just ain't got the rock like Cronin did )

You're right Newc. They rocked in the 70's. 157 Riverside Avenue was one of my favorites.

I really dug REO's High Infedelity. Faster Pussycat's first two are must haves aswell as the first LA Guns. Most of these acts have greatest hits out now so look them for all bands listed.

If you want to hear some guitar work that was ahead of it's time (IMO) try Sweet. Not the Fox on the Run, Little Willie crap, but the stuff you never heard on the radio. The CD Give Us A Wink is pretty cool. And the non-radio tracks on Desolation Boulevard are good too. Listen to these, look at when they came out, then think of all the bands that became famous following their formula. Of course, all of this may be a bit too far off the beaten path. But that's where I walk.

Actually it's all about whether or not he plays guitar. In general, non-guitarists do not fully appreciate songs or groups that are shredderific, but they can get a handle on things with a solid groove even if it does have blazing guitar work.

Hell Yeah! I was going to mention Sweet, but thought I'd better check and see if anyone else mentioned them first.

I'm a huge fan and have an extensive Sweet CD collection; 20+ discs. I pulled some out the other day to listen to.

Great Glam stuff, definitely!

Too many possibilities to list. But here's a few:

'70s-type stuff:
AC/DC--any of the Bon Scott-era stuff
Scorpions--Lovedrive
Kansas--Leftoverture
Rush--Permanent Waves
Triumph--Allied Forces
UFO--Lights Out
MSG--Assault Attack
Rainbow--Long Live Rock'n'Roll
Thin Lizzy--Jailbreak
Queen--A Night At The Opera
Doobie Brothers--Best of the Doobies
KISS--Destroyer

I can't really give much help on the '80s, since I was into heavier music than all of that glam/hair stuff.
