Re: Stopping smoking.

I REALLY need to quit also... Im 24 and have been smoking for like 8 years now. Its part of my life, I enjoy it. But I know that I need to quit if I want to live. I quit once before and did REALLY well, but its hard when everyone in your house smokes. Now that I have my own place it should be easier, but its still going to be very hard, every thing I do is associated with smoking. After eating, in my opinion, is the hardest time not to smoke... If I can get over that part I think Id be ok. Solution? Im not gonna eat... I could stand to lose some weight anyways!

I've never been a smoker but I applaude you effort to quit. I know several people that have and it seems cold turkey is the way to do it. Good Luck man, be strong!

Thanks, day 4. I've seen people stop in different ways. Hypnosis, Gum, the Patch (which screwed up my blood pressure when I tried that). Guess it depends on the person, but cold turkey seems to be the most successful style, from most of the non-smokers I talked to.

one step at a time Keep it up and before long you'll be smoke free.

I do believe that cold turkey is the way to go. I admit quiting is hard but also there is a big misconception on how hard it is to quit, people say its harder to quit than it really is so they go into it with a preconcieved notion that is the most difficult thing to do in life and that realy is not true at all.

I wouldn't say it the hardest thing, depending on the angle you approach it. I think if you really want to give it a go, it can be done. I do know that after you've quit for a while, you can look back and say 'that wasn't so hard', but when your in the midst of it, it's easy to say 'fukk it, I felt better when I smoked'.

The anxious feelings and scatter-brained frustration was always my downfall to abandoning my tries. So far it's working for me, provided some jerk don't piss me off. I'm still very volatile.

Patience.. and always remember to breathe.
If some a-hole is irritating you, take a deep breath and walk away.
I know exactly how you feel right now. It's gonna be like this for a few more days.
I was ready to rip peoples heads off by day 5, but the urge will begin to fade very soon.
Just relax and try and focus on work.
Just hang in there... the hard part is almost over.

I had a serious problem with the patch. I would be craving like crazy one minute and then the next minute it would feel like I just chain-smoked an entire pack. The release method seemed pretty inconsistent.

That is why I preferred the gum. You regulated it.

I also wanted to try that inhaler thing, but that was too much like a real ciggy.

Re: Stopping smoking.

I gave it up also approx 7 years ago or so.
Like most habits(not all)the desire to quit has got to be there. You really got to want to quit. Otherwise, its pointless.

I don't know how many times I tried to quit and did for several days, but picked it right up again. You really got to want to quit. Say no to the desire to smoke after eating a meal and etc. I just kept saying no to each impluse and desire I had on a daily basis, and finally reached the point where it was no longer a struggle. It took me about 2-3 weeks to reach that point. Thats been give or take 7 years ago. It wasn't easy, BUT you got to want to quit, or you won't.
Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

I quit cold turkey about 6 weeks ago. No problem whatsoever. I fucking rule!!!

It's funny actually because other times I've tried to quit were a complete failure. I usually made it 5 or 6 days, and got sucked back in. I guess it was just the right time. Good luck to anyone quitting!!!

Re: Stopping smoking.

So I am about a week smoke/dip free. No gum, patch, nada. Admittedly, I didnt smoke much, only a couple a day, but quitting is quitting.

Where is everyone else in this process? Still quit?

Its been 3 months for me now. I went cold turkey as long as I could handle it. I found out that I couldn't stand it. I went on the patch inorder to keep myself from killing everyone within a 20 foot radius. Did 21mg patch for 5 days and I am good.

I quit cold turkey on new years day 2001 after smoking a pack a day for 15 years. I don't belive in patches, hypnosis, gum, acupuncture, etc. It's all willpower, and it's all in the mind. If you want to do something you just fucking do it. You just have to keep telling yourself that you're stronger than the drug, because you are.
