FYI guys, the regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll does tweak DOES NOT FIX the problem if you are using IE or anything that hosts IE (AOL, Eudora, Outlook, NeoPlanet, MSN Explorer, etc.) - let's be careful out there.

I'm checking on an ETA for a fix.

This is true. It is only going to reduce the chances of you getting it. If this is a result of the small amount of source code that got leaked out, can you imagine what it would be like if the whole code was realeased like the 9 States vs. Microsoft law suit wanted ??

I'm not trying to bust your balls Matt, I just want to be crystal clear that this fix does not reduce your chances of getting infected AT ALL from within IE or the hosting programs I mentioned before. This is bad stuff folks.

Use firefox. Doesn't protect you 100%, but it does greatly reduce the risk.

Patch and disabling the vulnerable Windows component (Cleveland Metal already stated instructions) here:

Disable the vulnerable component. Get the patch. Then download the checker to make sure your system is invulnerable. Then cross your fingers for an official patch. I'm following this thread on my spyware forum:

Hot damn... the patch worked better than expected, because it totally killed my ability to log on to the internet.

I have thus removed the patch, but still had to reinstall my connection.
