Studio cage match: just lock Dave and Eddie in until they lay down at least 3 albums worth of material then send in the cleanup crew.
Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam!
I just wonder if Eddie could perform well enough to put on a good show with Diamond Dave. Several of the reports from the last tour make me wonder if Eddie will be able to really play any more. Don't get me wrong, I really hope he can but the last tour didn't seem encouraging.
dave is well read, and well spoken. yeah he's cracked, he goes off on tangents, but it is a hell of a lot more interesting than "hey man, buy my tequila".
ya know?
Sure it wouldn't be the same as in their heydey, but if they were sober enough to give the best they have today, it would still be worth seeing. The travesty of the last tour was sad though, and not Sam's fault. It's not his fault Ed's too smashed to play, and it's not his fault he's not Dave. Sam wrote some cool songs but Van Halen was Roth as much as Ed. With Sam it just wasn't the same.
We have dave on the radio here now in Sterns place. Seems interesting enough. His voice just carry or cut as well as strens for the radio purpose, but he's pretty cool to listen to.
It would be great if they could do it, Not wanting to be cynical but, Eddies M.O. is to do some kind of tour/reunion thing when his contracts with guitar companies expire, use it for leverage to get a lot of bucks, and then go back in seclusion, just find out when his deal with Charvel is up for renewal, and look for something like this to actually happen,
Yeah Eddie will have to hit bottom, not die, turn it around, and get over his hatred of DLR. So if all that happens then I am sure there will be a reunion. I will be in line to see it if it happens, but I am not holding my breath. Someone needs to get Clapton to talk to Ed. Ed lists him as one of his main and only influences and Clapton has been there. If anything could come from this it would be a good episode of Intervention.
