• Rejoined my old band

Happy to be back under different circumstances.

Before we would practice on Wednesdays, 8:00 til whenever, but we would meet at a bar at 6:30 prior to. By the time we got down there, we were all buzzed. Unorganized practice, arguments over little shit. I just got fed up and said that was it. Though I did make appearances over the summer with them, I just didn't want to deal with th BS practices.

Apparently it hit everyone else too. Now 7:30 til 10:30 with a structure, Old stuff, new stuff and harmony vocals. No alcohol, cell phones until after. I like it, so I rejoined.

Gigs are lining up and it's exciting to be in a 'new' band. These guys/girls where like brothers/sisters and it was hard to walk away after all the time I invested, but I think we 'see the light' now.

I love to drink as much as the next guy, but I love to play also. Each has its time and place and I'm glad this group saw that.

Cool bro...

glad you have things ironed out for the moment..

I would love to re-kindle my Bed Of Nails thing..I have a couple drummers that would be interested...but my main man TY (singer) works nights and doesn't have much free time or social life at the moment..

I'm sure he'd like to finish what we started with a fresh outlook...I know I would...we work VERY well together.

well, sorry to be such a pessimist Don...that's just what dickhead people made me...I don't expect much from them nor do I expect any human to ever change..people are born who they are then die.

I hope this won't be the case..for your sake. I hope things work out. Sorry I'm such a cynical bastard!

Keep us posted!!

Billy

Oh, so you likes the beer...well then...you can curb that if you like...no drinky till after practice/recording...

Funny thing is I MUST play high..I need weed to record or play..

I drink and I get careless and sloppy..I have a friend like that in a band..he's a cool dude and good drummer but he is NOT permitted to have one single sip of beer till after practice..they already sent him home at the studio when they smelled beer on him...even before he started to play.. Re: Rejoined my old band

A couple of years ago I teamed up with an old drummer I used to be in a band with. I quit the band for much of the same reasons you did. Too much drinking and partying and not enough practice.

We were about 18 years old then so I figured since he's older, been in the military and has a job, kids, etc. he'd be more grounded. Man, was I ever wrong!

In a way it's kind of funny looking back at it now, but at the time it really pissed me off. Dude is a bad alocoholic. Didn't know that at the time, but anyway, he'd show up half drunk already with a 6 pack ready to go.

Early on I wrote a very basic song for us to play and have something to work on. He was always so drunk he couldn't keep up, but of course it was always my fault because to most drummers I've ever known timing is never their fault!

I was watching this freaking dude one night and he was again drunk as shit and literally about to fall off his stool and naturally the song is falling apart all over the place, then all of a sudden he jumps up holds a stick up in the air and says, "watch your meter!" Needless to say "practice" was over at that point.

After a few rounds of that shit, almost a year of it actually, I told dude not to ever come to my house drinking again. At first I thought he was going to at least stop boozing long to practice a couple of hours, but it started to get where he'd sneak off, guzzle a few quarts and return drunk.

In a years time we never got that one song down, which was very basic, so I called it quits with him. Well, I had it down, I wrote it, but with him we never got all the way through it!

What's sad though is he bought a new set of drums a few months before. About $1200 worth. His drinking was so bad he lost 2 jobs and instead of using what little money he had for rent he bought beer instead and sold those drums for $400! Just enough for rent.

DonnyCat,
Pitchers and catchers report awfully soon. Are you ready for that? I think we storm into the playoffs come oct.
i'm jealous of you getting out and playing, that's cool as a cucumber.

Most of us are older and recognized what was happening. Now it's not everyone in the band's doing. I was one of the guys that met at the bar, so I'm partially guilty, but when I first noticed what was happening, I had mentioned several times that maybe we should just head down to the basement and get to practice.

It continued until one day, I dropped my hands by my side during a song and said I couldn't do it anymore. So, I packed up my stuff, wished everyone well, and went home. That was almost a year ago.

I was a little reluctant at first, but, like Bill said, time will tell. Now, our first practice was last night and everything went as planned. Nobody was lit, we banged out 4 new songs, worked on some old stuff, and then, put the instruments down and worked on vocals. If that is truly what they want to do, then we're on a major growth process. It is what I want to do, as some of the other people. I am a little skeptical about one member, but we'll see.

Hell, the season still hasn't ended for me. I'm still celebrating Gordon going to the Phillies (sorry philly). I can't wait for this season. I think we'll qualify for the playoffs long before Oct.

As for playing, I enjoy playing with these guys (and gals). Or lead singer and drummer is a 26 year old chick. The rest of us are 40+.
