So after over a year and a half with our second guitarist, we decided it was time we should go our seperate ways. He's a cool guy and all to hang out with, but when it came to the fundamentals of the band as far as writing songs and picking covers, this guy was one pain in the ass. He wanted to be a strictly 80's metal band, which on the surface is a good idea, but he wanted it to be glam metal. Poisen, Warrent, Firehouse ETC..... The other 4 of us wanted to be able to expand into some other stuff like Zeppelin or some newer stuff like Godsmack. He also hated Judas Priest with a passion, and the other 4 of us loves Priest.
Even if all that could have somehow worked itself out, we are a band that likes to write songs, and this is where we really have a falling out with this guy. When he writes a song, he wants it done his way and won't have anything to do with any suggestions from others. There were many comments like "That's not the way I wrote it, and I wrote that before I was with you guys, so don't change it" or "This song has special meaning to me, so I really want it done a certain way" and the straw that broke the camel's back on Tuesday after I put one divebomb at the end of a lead that he hadn't heard before because he was always too loud "Don't put that shit in my song, put it in your own". Shortly before that we had the "beating a dead horse" discussion with him about his volume. I told him the band needs to have a good mix. He said he didn't need to hear us and can tell when we fuck up.
Needless to say, he is pissed. He feels because he was the driving force behind booking our gigs and writing 70% of our songs, that warrents his attitude. We told him we basicly let him take the reins on booking the gigs and that after a year and a half for only booking 6 gigs, he sure as hell wasn't a booking monster or anything. He was also employed all of maybe 4 months out of the last 1.5 years, so he had plenty of free time to do it.
It sux to let him go, he was a killer guitar player and a cool guy to hang with. I have been friends with him for well over 10 years, but it was what was best for the band.
