Deep breathing cannot replace water. Your body is 60-80% of your body weight depending on some factors such as age, body fat, etc. The intervertbral discs in your back need water to be hydrated to prevent deterioration. A huge cause of back pain is dehydration. The discs are dehydrated and thin out which can cause a ton of problems. Plus, when your body doesn't have enough water, it draws it out from wherever it can, blood serum, organ systems, etc. This can cause a number of problems as well.
