• iPods?

I just bought a 2nd gen iPod mini 4gb off ebay, have yet to receive it in the mail. but I thought I'd check here to see who else has an iPod and what their experience has been with it?

I chose the mini over the new nano because the mini has the aluminum case which does not scratch and is much more durable then the fragile-looking nano case, which is also a fingerprint magnet I hear. plus I got it slightly used for less than it retailed for, so it was a no-brainer (since these models have jumped in the secondary market after being discontinued a few months back, replaced by the nano - I guess people like these so much that many of them are selling over their original retail price, it's funny).

I have a 6gb mini that crashes sometimes. I got in in april of 2005 with a 3 year warranty with best buy cause I knew that ipods weren't the most reliable devices around. I recommend you get a case for yours so that you don't get the screen scratched up, which happens relatively easily.

I don't have a nao, but I have a new one, and the plastic they use on all the new models sucks. It gets scratched much easier than the older ones and it's a lot more noticeable since it's black. I had a 4th gen. before I got the new one and it crashed a lot like Grasshopper's. It would freeze, and I'd have to reboot it and then it wouldn't work at all. I sent it to Apple and they didn't do shit.

i bought 2 of the new vid\photo 30 gigs for my kids as an xmas gift. they are sweet. the smartest thing i did, was to buy a good case for them. i got the clear hard plastic ones that were $30, but for what the ipod cost it was a cheap investment. they said that their frends who got theirs and did not get cases are already scrached up.... also, there are blogs that suggest to use brasso on the screens to get rid of scraches ...

i have a 4gig mini, i bumped into some brick and scratched the aluminum, but i don't really care. i like it. i was having some battery issues after awhile, but i had the software reinstalled on it at the apple store (it was under warranty) and it's been fine.

i'd like one of the newer ones, but i've got a feeling that there's going to be a few more developments and releases relatively soon. besides, the mini works well for me. i've had no freezing issues with mine and i think it's a second gen.

4 gig mini here. It died once I think, apple replaced it no problem. Other than that perfect.

Originally had a 40 gig, but when loaded up with 30 gigs of music I could never figure out what to listen to. As a result I gave it to my sister as a gift and bought myself a mini.

The only problem I have with them is their battery problem. After about a year of constant usage, they dont hold a charge too well. Definately cool.

I bought my wife a video one for Christmas. She likes and bought a case for it. I know nothing after that.

i love em, cant live without em, but i think they are the most unreliable hunks of metal in the world. I've had two of them break on me so far, and its not due to dropping, or misuse. neither of them have lasted a year. its like they are on an 8 month time bomb

                    thanks for the comments everyone.

yeah mine arrived tonight and the dude who sold it to me took good care of it. it arrived packed as new, which was cool, and he never used the earbuds either.

so far so good, I got about 470 songs on it so far - Alice in Chains sounds good through the green meanie mini!

hopefully if I treat it nice it will last longer than 8 mos.

dont go running with it, or working out. they arent really made for shaking alot. i think your mini is flash based though, id unno. all the hard drive ones are delicate

the minis? before the shuffles came out, they were partially targeted at joggers, etc. i do use mine when i'm at the jim and haven't had issues.

the 8 month thing that someone posted earlier was similar to my experience; my issue was that it wouldn't hold a charge and a software reinstall took care of it. kinda odd, but hell, it worked and i'm happy.

I've got a Gen 3 15GB that works like a champ after two years. I haven't had a lot of battery issues but the life is less than when it was new. I will probably replace the battery myself in a few months. I will get a nano or other flash based unit for running. Hard Drive players and running are not a good combination.
