Yeah, Paul, the secret was that the LXs were a fair bit lighter than the GTs. Mine was a stripper model, so not only was it really quick, it also got great MPG! I used to drive it to the local mountains on all my skiing trips. Good times.

Yeah, around 300 pounds lighter, sorta like the same effect you'd get from getting Ron out of your car.

Fox bodies are most fun with 4 doors. Everyone expects a Mustang to be quick, they don't expect to get walked by this shit.

Mine didn't get great gas mileage, at least not after I messed around with it a little. I had a larger throttle body, ported and polished intake, 1-5/8" JBA headers, offroad H, 2 chamber Flows with 4" stainless tailpipes, but it was probably the timing that really fucked with my gas mileage. I got around 350km on a tank. That's around 219 miles for the metrically challenged.

                Damn that car was fun.

Oh yeah, and I couldn't drive mine in the snow even if I wanted to.

Of course it did, that is if the guy driving it was a moron.

A stock 88-93 Mustang convertable with an automatic only runs around 15.9 - 16.2 in the quarter...

Ya gots to build them a bit. Shift kit, and a 3:73 gear swap brought my friends down to low 14s mmediately I think he hit 14.1 actually. Dropped two seconds with 500 bucks or so and never touched the motor. Doesn't take much at all.

Sad for the older car owners, nowdays a mid 13 second car right out of the factory is more than common, haha.

Convertibles are heavy too. My LX did 14.5 bone stock, first time at the track. I still have my ticket somewhere.

that's the deal with my Toy..weight to power ratio..

The Factory 5 Cobra weighs 2,065 lbs..about half the weight of a stock mustang..with the same drive train.

Take a Mustang cut it in half..and that's about where I'm at...and you could drop just about any motor in this thing..I know a dude who bought a 14K brand new purple Viper motor and put that in his Factory 5...WOW.

Mine is in the 12's in a 1/4..with a bone stock 225hp output 5.0..0-60 in 3.5..I could get as silly as I want too with this thing...and I will kill myself..like James Fuggin' Dean....COOL!

Re: Got a new 2006 GT Mustang....

My LTD weighed 2800 after it was gutted. My Fairmont wagon weighed 2700. Each had "only" 300 RWHP on very conservatively tuned 302's. The wagon had an old school B cam, long tubes, offroad X with Mac Pro-Dumps, home ported GT-40s, a 650 DP on a Victor Junior. Had a built T5Z, MegaBite Jr.s, 4.30 gears. With slicks and a 6,000 rpm launch it would hook and book, 60 foot times in the 1.6s and high 11's at between 110 and 114, depending on weather. That was all motor in a wagon. With the 150 shot I was planning on running that would have been a 10 second wagon. However, I sold it before I sprayed it.

The LTD has a DSS Pro-Bullet 306, low compression motor. It was originally in a 10 second LX running a NOVI 2000 and 14 psi of boost. I ran it N/A and it was a little soft like that. Had stage III Windsor Sr. Irons, a flat tappet blower cam, Victor Junior with a 700 DP, equal length shorties, offroad X, Mac Pro Dumps. I had a full manual C4 in the LTD and 3.73s. It ran low 12's all day at 110...on ET Streets. I had planned on running a 150 shot on that as well, but lost interest and parted the car out. I bought that car from its original owner. It was a real '85 LTD-LX, one of 2200 and it went though about 3-4 different stages. I put that car into the high 14's with its original CFI motor and some bolt-ons, and then into the 13's with the stock shortblock and some ported Hi-Po 289 heads, and a carb. Then spun a rod bearing in that motor and dropped in the 306. It was a fun sleeper. Both of those cars took plenty of guys off guard at the track, and on the street.

I will tell you this, dudes in F bodies, Supras, assorted ricers and other Mustang guys really, really hate getting walked by wagons and 4 door sedans...REALLY hate it.
