And he didn't have to sell his soul to get it. Unlike Johnny Damon.

Theo would have ponied up the 12 million to keep him.

Sorry dude ..Theo did an interview here several weeks ago and he was asked that question .. his answer was 2 fold

        1) The philosophy is such that they set a price on a player and stick to it

        2) The yankees probably would have continued to outbid to drive the price up ...

Theo stated his beleif is that if he was still in charge that Damon would stil be a Yankee. He wished Johnny the best of luck and stated that Johnny did what he needed to do for his fmaily and couldn't hold that against him ..

Johnny just couldn't afford keeping his ex-stripper wife happy on a Red Sox salary. Gonna miss that "In Style" portion of the NESN pre game show. lol

I believe you Kev, but the interview was after the fact though. Theo is not a stupid guy, and I honestly believe he would have fought to keep him. He was a cornerstone of the lineup and i just can't see him leaving without a fight from Theo. If Scott Beckett stays healthy it will be another nail biter season.

In all honestly I believe they are sitting on their hands waiting to hear Clemens make a decision and that in itself will dictate where they blow their wad when the time comes..

Are the Sox that hot on Clemens? I have been out of the lop so to speak.

If Clemens comes back to the Sox, Yankees, or anybody besides Houston, I just have to laugh. His retirement is as sound as KISS, or the Who's farewell tour-lol

                        Re: Theo rejoins Sox

I heard he should fetch over 22 million just for the one season. Houston can't afford that. That's another reason I think they didn't offer him salary arbitration. Because that is about what he was due to make. As is the Red Sox currently have 7 pitchers that are possible starters. But I definitely wouldn't mind bumping that number to 8. Remember what George said. "You can never have enough pitching."
