Re: Camaro Fans..........

So what made these original cars a hit in the 1960s was a cheapo production car with high performance parts stuffed in, then they got refined and overpriced.

That is where the WRX and ricer crowds are today

Ford has it right with the GT, right price, right car, good look. GM should not push a rebadged CTS for 50k.

That being said, it's pretty cool looking only if they fix that damn grill - not very camaro-like and the price tag - 24k tops with a 300hp motor and they got a seller.

Just make sure it's got manual windows and locks.

Oh, and who has been a passenger in any seat of a 1984-200X F-body? WTF were they thinking? Need a shoehorn for any seat and that damn hump in the floorboard . Very fast cars that rattle shake you to death and leak fluids inside and out.

        Re: Camaro Fans..........

Wasn't another problem with the last Camaros and Firebirds that the cars simply got very large and heavy which reduced performance? I also thought another problem was that you couldn't get a really fast car from the factory, like some of the Mustang Cobras and SVT's.

I had a '99 and an '02 Z28. Got them both new... great rides! As a matter of fact, I'd like to get another. I hope this concept sees the light of day.

Oddly enough, the reason I got rid of the '02 was the insurance rates.

I really don't understand you guys! That car is fucking awesome! It does NOT look too retro like the Rustang, it's got lot's of power and GM said they want to be around the high $20k to low $30k mark on these with the different option packages.... it doesn't look anything like the Mustang, it has a hint of retro with a completely modern look!

You want to talk about fun to drive? My car handles 100 times better than the old muscle cars and it's got 400hp! I owned several muscle cars and I love them but they didn't handle worth a shit! This new Camaro has muscle written all over it and it'll handle like a dream with that IRS and short wheel base!

CTS.... no way! That's like people who got the Nova and Chevelle confused!!! Similarities but that's about it....

Oh and my insurance is $102 per month with a $250 deductible and 100/300 coverage.... now if I had a ticket or accident, then it would be alot higher...

Well, I just lost my 02 not long ago due to a drunk hitting it. I have to admit, I hated it. I hated the entire 4th gen Camaro line. The T/A's were nice. When the Camaro first came out in 93, my first thought was that its a Geo Storm on steroids. Then they changed it a little and it looked like a Chrysler LHS on steroids ( everything from the double brow headlights and hood to the tail lights). Yes, my 02 was fun and quick, but, I hated the way it looked. -Lou

The biggest factor is GMs pricing structure. Originally (back in the 60's and 70's) the pony cars were good fast cheap fun. Nowadays, they're overpriced, and not really that much fun. GM may make an attempt to enter that market again, but it may truly die before they get on the wagon. The real money is in the original muscle cars, not these cheap generic looking afterthoughts.

                    I could not agree more.

I would rather spend 20/30k on my 69 Nova SS. It may not handle like the new cars, but with the mods I prefer it would be close, but then again... for me its all about straight line fun and with the mods I prefer I bet it would be faster and way more cool

Try pricing that insurance in some other states and see what it is. I think youve got it pretty good for rates. and yes, if you even had a cop look at you funny, the insurance would be alot higher, ALOT.

and I do agree with mm, the quality on those cars was not great. they had issues and that didnt help their sales either. It would be nice to see a rebirth of tuff muscle cars like that, but I just dont see it happening with the way the car market is today. I have been in the car biz for 10 years and I have never seen a market like now. Its pretty spooky. The consumers are very educated and they only buy when the rebates and incentives get good. They know the automakers will up the incentives if the sales arent there, so they just wait until they up the rebates. we go in streaks where you will sell no NEW cars for a month or so and then the rebates go up and we sell a $hit load of NEW cars in 2 weeks. Its very cyclical.

I do agree that if they build that car and its a powerhouse with good qulaity, if they keep it below $30,000 MSRP loaded to the max, they will have a good car on their hands. Of course, the insurance rates are going to have an effect on sales just like they did before.

As a 70's Camaro enthusiast...I'm VERY disappointed even by this concept. I think it looks like a friggin' Mustank. It's got that boxy muscle car wannabe look to it. Overdone, overpriced, over and out.

I'm a fan of the late-'60s models, & I think the one in the pics had some pretty good throwback design features, but the one in the vid just looks like an attempt to copy the new Mustang. If they get this to market for '09, they'll be a day late & a dollar short. I think their effort would be better spent trying to come up with a new classic design rather than this copy-cat crap.

I have owned quite a few Camaros 68 ,70* , 73 , 82 , 87 and a 94Z*(* still own).I personally like the new Mustang and Challenger Concept better than the Camaro concept. If they were to release that Camaro at the same time as the Dodge this Chevy fan will be going to the Dodge dealer.IMO GM has no exciting cars except for the Vette. They are to busy worrying about the next SUV they are go to push on us.The GTO is bland , sure it fast and handles well but it does not have the right look.It is more BMW than muscle car.

As far insurance prices when I bought my 94 it was three years old and had to have full coverage. It was not the bad IMO , $850.00 a year for a 29 year old with two cars.It is now the cheapest car I own for insurance.
