Kerry's ex husband (who we're both still close friends with...next episode of Springer) lived at a historic inn here in NJ (The Andover Inn for anyone who knows the location). It was the oldest standing building in Sussex county NJ, now gone up in flames around midnight on Monday morning. He barely made it out with his life, as he slept through all of the commotion. He was the last to get out with miliseconds to spare. He had turned to look back at his room as he was bailing to the fire escape, and saw the flames crawling up his door.
His room (on the third floor of this building) sustained the most damage....nothing left at all. The building was subsequently gutted, with only part of the bar area adjacent to the dining room with only water and smoke damage. The fire inspector condemned it, and it will have to be bulldozed.
Here's a pic of the fire....his room is the far upper left corner. You can see the eerie glow coming from in there.
The fire was started when a man on the OPPOSITE side of the building from where BJ's room was, was refilling a butane lighter while smoking a cigarette. He had put the cigarette down in an ashtray near some curtains, and the fumes built up around him. He wasn't injured, but this is what his stupidity left behind.
He's going to stay here with us until he gets back on his feet (again...next episode of Springer...LOL) His son with Kerry wouldn't have it any other way, and Connor will get to have his dad with him more often for a little while. The Red Cross has been helping with everything...and on the ball.
Moral to this post...cherish life and the people around you, and not take material objects so seriously, because it can all go up at any time.
