The refs should have got the mvp for GIVING the game to the steelers.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Hawks gave up 3 huge plays and did not make any big plays themselves. Their offense is predicated around making long drives. Long drives do not win big games. Big plays win big games.
Seatle KILLED themselves about 10 different times:
Dropped passes - too many to count
Penalties - too many to count on plays where they gained big yards or even scored.
Poor Coaching - Holmgren worked his way out of FG range 2 times, and then Brown missed the 2 FGs by a mere foot each way.
THe refs didnt help em any either, and I still say Big Ben hasn't crossed the goal line yet.......PITT would have kicked a FG on 4th down there I think.
As for the commercials, BUD was the clear winner for many of their adsm especially the one with the bear.
The Ref would not make such calls on a stage like that. A billion eyes on them!!!
With all the blunders, where a case could be made "they" tried to give the game to the Colts, the league CANNOT afford another stinker.
The Seattle receiver stretched his arms and pushed the defender, THAT is apenalty for offensive pass interference.
The goal line call was made on the field and there was no conclusive evidence to overturn it on replay. The rule.
Plus I believe the football crossed the line while Big Ben was in the air, and that is all it takes. Does not matter where he lands on the goal line as long as the part of the football croses the plane.
The Seahawk receiver kocked the goal, line pilon after he stepped out of bounds. I don't know what else to say.
This was a tuff game for me, A Steeler fan, because I could not find A player on the seahaws to dislike. Just a bunch of good guys.
But the game was won and lost on the field. Penalties are a part of the game and the team that commits them is sometimes the looser and sometimes not.
The Steelers made the plays when they mattered and Seattle didn't.
If they keep their back (i.e. Alexander) they will have a legitimate chance next year.
For now, Steelers are the Champs.
its funny watching all the highlights make it look like it was a better game than it really was. I told my wife at the start of the 4th that its a pretty unexciting game thus far
The refs didn't hand the game to anyone, they didnt make any defensive plays, drop passes or miss any tackles but the Seahawks.
I know your bummed Donnie but the Seahawks had an excellent season. Sometimes you have know how it feels to get so close and to lose before you can win.
At the end of the game, the two teams' coaches traditionally meet in the middle of the field, shake hands and do the usual good sportsman-like "good game" / "congratulations" / yada, yada.
Cower followed tradition, but was left standing there looking for Holmgren for what seemed like an eternity. It went on so long that it seemed like he was getting PO'd. Holmgren NEVER WENT to congratulate him. He made a bee-line for the showers and - being the angry old piss-poor loser that he is - never emerged. I'm sure he'll eventually say some BS about getting lost in the crowd or something, but it was OBVIOUSLY intentional. Pathetically disrespectful, and piss-poor sportsmanship. Quite frankly, if I were the Seahawks owner, I would've fired him on the spot for that incident. That's like the coaches equivalent of a TO incident. FUCK HIM!!!
I think that Seattle's schedule was, ultimately, the thing that hurt them the most in this game. With all of those cupcakes, they never really had to fight through a ton of adversity. Overcoming adversity was what the Steelers season was all about.
The steelers didnt really beat them , they(Hawks) and the refs beat them instead.Your QB had a 22.5 passer rating .If it wasnt for the seahawks inability to catch the ball, and the refs making some of the WORST calls and non calls in history of the SB the hawks had a chance. It wasnt like the steelers came out and dominated like they did against my Broncos. They were flat and luck wore verticaly striped shirts.
I didnt have a dog in this fight, but the game shouldnt hinge on bad calls by the refs, period.Steeler fans can say all they want, but your team won despite themselves, despite.
That being said, that stevens cat should put his money where his mouth is.He had the chance to be a game breaker and couldnt keep the ball in his mits.He had a chance at being MVP had he just caught the ball.Every drop was a 1st down, and all were catchable passes. If I were a hawks fan, id be pissed at that guy for sure.
The refs-shit they sucked.
*That was not a touchdown on the 1, ben never got his ball over the line, never. If you saw that it did, you were a steelers fan only.
*pass interfernece in the endzone?if your gonna call that, then call it on both of them because they both did the same thing.
*There was completion for the hawks that was ruled incomplete, which shouldve been called a fumble.
*The holding call was BS, that shouldve been 1st and goal, instead....
*The QB gets called for an illegal BLOCK for tackling the guy who intercepted the ball........BLOCK??????? WTF, he was TACKLING the guy.God damn, that gave the steeler 15 xtra yards for the game clincher.
*Joey Porter shouldve been called for the horse collar rule.
The league should come out and appologize for the HORRENDOUS job thier crew did in the playoffs and the superbowl.
Now that you mention the Holgrem dissing Cowher, I did notice that. But was so excited I kind of forgot about it.
Yeah, not a classy thing to do.
Oh well maybe he was making a beeline to that locker room food table to get the good stuff before th eplayers got their sweaty hands on the cookies.
The Stones halftime show screwed up the field. Holmgren called a stupid game and should resign. Paul Allen should buy, at least, 3 more teams. Then he would have a real shot. Hell, he should start his own league. Call it the AFL. That would stand for: "Allen's a Frigging Loser" But a very rich one.
