• Navy, me?

So, I'm planning on joining the Navy next year, with high hopes of going through SEAL training. Right now I live in the water, surf everyday, dive all summer, ect., and i'm already a pretty built guy. I've done some research and have seen just how hard it is. Well, humbled would be a serious understatment.
Have any of you guys been through it, seen it up close, or had a friend who's done it? Any input would be great!

I had a Ranger contract when I went into the Army, after seeing what they went through, I turned it down. I never would have made it partially due to my size and the rest is just because I wasn't as hard core as I thought I was. I struggled just to get through basic. I say if you really want it, go for it. We need fine people like you out there kickin ass.-Lou

apparently, Seals training beats the shit out of Ranger training, but thats just something I heard.

<font color="yellow">SEAL attrition rate is about 70-80% bro....very, very tough just to get "in"....then, it doesn't stop

As much as I hate to admit it, being a Marine, the SEAL's are the Military bad-boys....

Go for it if it's something you really want to do.....you'll never know if you don't try, and if you truly put 110% into the indoc and don't make it for whatever reason...there is no shame in that bro.....

                      I couldn't do it I don't think, even when I was younger....Marine boot-camp was tough....SEAL training is infinitely harder.....

I kinda like my normal routine now lol.....I'm old, and I have 7 years till I hang my boots up I'll leave this Special Forces stuff to young dudes like you with the drive and ambition

And, if you do make it, well, you'll be able to kick my ass 20 different ways, but I still outrank you

I work with a guy that was in the NAVY and wanted to go for the SEALs, and he made it through everything but the last part where you have to denounce your Mother as a B*tch and your Father as a MotherF**ker. He said he couldn't do that.

                          Right there with you, painfully.

Although when the SEALS are running across the border getting away from some deed they just pulled. They like seeing a Marine Rifle Squad waiting for them to stop what was following them. The extra firepower came in handy.

It is pretty hard and demanding. I did 20 years in the Navy, sometimes working with the Seals. It's more of a mental thing. If you want it you can do it, but have yourself a backup plan, for example, if you don't make it, you'll go out to the fleet as a regular sailor. Make sure you picked a good occupation to be able to fall back on. All Seals have a rating, like an electrician, A Gunner's mate, Boatswain's mate, Navigation and so on.

If you need to know what each of these jobs do, pm me and I'll tell you without trying to recruit you.

Bootcamp is a breeze, but don't compare it to Seal training.........you'll be put in your place.

When are you scheduled to go into the Navy? All in all, I met a lot of great people, went a lot of places and had great (and sucko) jobs, but it became my way of life.
Though I'm retired from the Navy now, I still work as a Navy Instructor (civilian), so it wasn't a far jump for me when I got out. Maybe I'll meet up with you someday. Never know, I taught a lot of people.

I admire your drive and desire to serve your country. Good luck in your endeavor

On a total side note...A good friend of mine in the environmental business was a Navy Seal. This guy is "THE" high hazard guy in the business. He's built like a professional wrestler and talks like a sailor (no offense guys, you know what I mean), but he is also one of the smartest guys I know.

This guys voice is very deep, and like I said he talks like a sailor. I've seen him put pHD research guys in their place when discussing chemistry and physics...but I've also seen him rip the cell phone from someones ear because they were talking on phone and not watching traffic (yes, he got out of his car and walked to the car in front of him )

If you ever followed pro wrestling back in the late 80's, this guy looks like "The Ultimate Warrior"
