• Best of George Lynch?

OK, call me backward, but I haven't heard anything by George Lynch, although I've read plenty on this forum suggesting he's right up there with P.Gilbert, etc. What CDs do you recommend?

Dokken - Under Lock And Key

George's best moment IMHO

Also, first two Lynch Mob albums

George was a MAJOR pioneer in the metal genre for sure in the 80 or so. But at this point, having seen him recently, I wouldn't say he's on a par with Gilbert.

Very tasty player in a lot of ways though. No where near as techy as Gilbert though.

But Seriously,

Under Lock and Key - I think the best Dokken Record.
Sacred Groove - Some cool pieces but the Best Parts I and II leave a little to be desired.
Both Lynch Mob Albums - I like some songs of the second more than the first but the first album was stronger overall.

FUkkin good tune!!

OK, I am a Lynch fan.

from the Dokken years:
My fav is "Tooth and Nail" he's rockin on that CD. his tone ruled on that CD!!!!

"under lock and key" is great, more commercial. Rockin!

"Back for the Attack" GREAT guitar playing, but weaker songs.

Both Lynch Mob cd's were great. Excellent guitar playing, groovy, tasty tunes. certainly not dokken.

"sacred groove" good CD> the tune "I will remember" really shows him branching out. Not as intense as "Mr. Scary" but more melodic. The last tune on it, the spanish type one was cool too. I Love the tune "Cry of the Brave" and "We dont own this world" great tunes!!!!

Check that stuff out. I personally havent cared for anything he did since then....

yeah I loved that last track on the Sacred Groove album, very cool latin tune, Santana should do something like that

that being said
IMHO George's tone on the Under Lock And Key is GODLIKE

Here's a video of George doing Mr. Scary to a backing track. Way too much reverb, but still pretty cool. 45MB file

Tierra Del Fuego. One of his best, it was very different and not something you expected to hear.

George's REH instructional video is cool, I don't really care about those excericses but I always love to watch those impovisation solos he plays there. Also one of his best moments.

Re: Best of George Lynch?

In my Dreams was on VH1C Metal Mania this afternoon. I have to pick up an axe and play along. I'd have to say George is my favorite player. The night before I was playing songs from both Tooth and Nail and Under Lock and Key. Those are my only two CD's - pretty pathetic for a Lynch fan. I have more on albums, but just never got around to finding the CD's.

The must-have for a Lynch-ologist (such as myself) is "Will Play for Food".

It's a mish-mash of songs he's recorded either for B-sides, cover albums, tribute albums, or just songs that didn't make records. My all-time favorite song on it... Goin' Down!

Ah - cheers guys Knew I could rely on you! I've just hit the BIN on e-bay for "Back for the Attack" & am watching a couple of the other CDs mentioned above. I've also watched the videos - cool (although the Dokken one is slightly cheesy - I'm not saying that's a bad thing, mind). Looking out for the Lynch mob stuff - are there only two albums? If not, what are the titles of the first two? Thanks again!
