Re: Best of George Lynch?

Ahh, so that was the reason..yeah, it took a 'few' years for Yngwie to mature. I think I faintly recall something about that tho.
While I was a Dokken fan because of George..I never was really a huge Don fan. I never saw Dokken until they toured with the 4-5 act tour with Alice Cooper as headliner only because my G/F was a huge Don fan. Glad I went tho.
(Don came out with cut bleached blond hair-looked like a bad version of 80's Halford without the spikes n leather)
That had Warrant and Slaughter w/ Tim Kelly (probably the last tour before he died).

I didn't do concerts much in the late 80's.
Was trying to survive and I was pretty cheap so I was really picky about who I went to go see.

Reminds me when he was on the cover of GP back in the 80's (like '87,'88 I believe) I was kinda surprised to read in his article when the interviwer asks what he thought of Yngwie..he said "who?"...I thought, man, what a slam, pretty ballsy.
I think that might've set off the whole "Yngwie f*cking Malmsteen, that's who!" type of attitude in Yngwie. Equally ballsy of him to have put it on a T-shirt.

Ahh, the 80's. Everyone vying for the top slot and ya have Vai actually taking it time and time again.

Vai was the good guy, maybe less ego and more music payed off

I have to disagree on Vai. He is an ego maniac. Just watch him in any video. He is all about showing off. I never cared for his playing either, just a bunch of tricks, and noises. NO melody. NO style. Just musical nonsense to me. There are a hell of alot of better players out there than him.

Re: Best of George Lynch?

Vai is the most humble player I've ever seen.
Also I've posted about thousand times why Vai is above the other guys, maybe you should search those post to get some glue about Vai's music, why he does it like that etc.

Re: Best of George Lynch?

Initially tho when he toured with Zappa, I thought he was pretty normal. Vai has paid his dues. Having Zappa promoting you as a virtuoso at 19 would likely give you a pretty good head start on any ego bolstering. He's a great showman tho in his own right, and very consistant. I was never really a huge Vai fan but appreciated what he could do. I never bought any of his solo stuff and am pretty unfamiliar with his material on the whole ( tho I really wanted a Jem when they first came out.) Branding him unmelodic is pretty harsh but I think I see your point.
I was more of Schenker camp myself.
I quit playing for alot of years tho not getting back into it until early 90's. Tend to go in cycles like that.

Lynch on the other hand.. always a fan before he went back to Dokken and released that reunion attempt at their version of Grunge.

I like to pick n choose usually cherry picking what tracks really blew me away. Have to respect everybody for their contribution for what they did. Roth era Scorps was Hendrix flavored and Michael would incorporate an occasional slide with vol swells while still playing his ass off on others from Lovedrive. They're two different camps IMO. One Hendrix and the other more Page.

Here is another good video, not nearly as cheesey as Breaking the Chains. He actually uses strings on his guitar this time.

I recommend starting with Breaking the Chains and going chronologically in order. Then you get to his best work IMHO which is the first two Lynch Mob albums and Sacred Groove. The Lynch/Pilson-Wicked Underground and REvolution are killer also!

I don't get this. There's not a damn thing grunge with Dysfunctional. If you doubt that, please give another listen to "Inside Looking Out", "Too High Too Fly", "Shadows Of Life", "Lesser Of Two Evils", "Hole In My Head" and "Long Way Home". You must have this album mistaken with Shadowlife, which did suck huge donkey dicks!

Tooth and Nail has the best work Lynch did in Dokken I think. That album never gets old...listen to the solo on the title track, it owns.

My band covers When Heaven Comes Down, and it is always one of my favorite songs to play. The solo has a great melody.
