You guys really need to know how Chicago politics works before you criticize it. Then you also need to read a bit more to realize that the majority of the people in the city who are affected by this are actually for it.

Cameras have been installed around the city at some of it's highest crime areas. It was controversial then. But now that the results are in and it has made a noticable improvement on crime statistics in that area.

You don't want to get me started on Meigs. Historical? Bah! Historically it shouldn't have been there!

So when they decide to put cameras in your neighborhood it will be cool with you?

if you have nothing to hide what difference does it make? Do you not go into 7-11, banks, malls, freeways etc just because they have a camera on you?

Yes, please...bring your cameras and your Starbucks, your trendy restaurants and boutique stores. Let's all work together to make my lot a million dollar lot.

Bring 'em on. They can listen in on my phone calls while they're at it. After the months the government spent crawling up my ass with a microscope and the subsequent polygraphs it's not like they're going to learn anything they don't already know.

As a matter of fact, YES! My wife is a victim of a violent crime and while she is now a very cautious person on her own, but I would not turn down any help from the city in keeping her safe. About a year ago there was what seems to be a serial rapist in the area. Cameras would have given the rapist a reason to think twice about his movements.

I live in the shadow of Wrigley Field. It's not as bad as the Cell, but it would go a long way towards ending the stream (no pun intended) of drunk Cubs fans who piss on trees, buildings, or cars in plain view of everyone right on Sheffield.

Besides, it's not like they're not putting cameras in my home.

I'd definitely have to agree with that! If I, or someone I knew was a victim of a crime in a given area...I'd sure as hell want that area made safer by better lighting or cameras...F-yeah!! And no...that doesn't mean remove or redevelop that part of the neighborhood either...that doesn't make sense at all.

Let me clarify. She wasn't attacked in Chicago. She was attacked in Bloomington, IL - in her own home at the time. She and I decided that she'd definitelyl be safer in Chicago. But while the rapes in the area happened she has been very careful and is rarely, if ever alone.

They won't end that stream though because of the revenue that those drunk fans bring in.

Personally, anything that helps catch criminals is a good thing. Put them in my neighbor hood, my in local 7-11. If they help protect people and catch the violent criminals, I'm behind it. There are too many situations where a murder, rapist or other violent criminal isn't caught because no one can identify the bad guy. With a camera, it's a hell of a lot easier to catch them.

If there had been camera's near my apartment in Bloomington, there may very well be a serial rapist off the streets and I wouldn't have to continue to meet with the police and give DNA, Hair, etc so they can continue to investigate people.

Here in Wrigleyville, if there had been cameras in the neighborhood, another serial rapist would not have been able to follow and attack women walking home from the EL.

Know what you are talking about before you comment on this stuff. And if you are arrogant enough to think that those cameras are just being used to spy on your activities, you are just naive. If you are committing a crime, I'm all for those cameras catching you.

Not very nice calling people who appreciate their privacy and have a LOGICAL distrust for government naive.

A LOT of our rights (rights that a LOT of people died to earn) are being lost in the laws being made today in the name of Homeland Security. And if you can't see that, perhaps "you" are naive as well.

Do you seriously think that these cameras in businesses and on the street are just to monitor you??? These cameras are not in your home. While you are walking down the street, you have put yourself in public view. Stores may be privately owned, but are open to the public. Do you truly believe that you have a right to total privacy in those places?

I do appreciate my privacy. Enjoy it. But I don't have a problem with cameras on the streets or in stores. I'm not saying I agree with everything in the world, but to have cameras in cameras to montior in areas open to the public, that I have no problem with.

Believe me, I'm far from naive. I've had police monitor my every move. All to try to protect me from a man who stalked and raped me. And I didn't mind. To throw a fit over being seen in public seems a little childish. And when the people directly involved don't have a problem with it, why should you?

Re: WTF is going on in Chicago? Richard Daley=NAZ

When they already have used high res cameras and digital imaging programs at sporting events to track, document/store facial characteristics of people attending there, it's going too far for my tastes.

I'll take my chances so as not to live under the scrutiny of cameras invading my daily activities every move. Stores I understand, but much more is getting scary. How long will it be before they watch people leaving bars, discern that they may be somewhat intoxed and getting into cars and use that against them somehow? I'm already amazed that many bars are scanning your drivers license upon entry, allowing then to get a lot of info on you right there.

Will you happily take the chip when they ask you to? I realize the GPS in cellphones isn't too far from it anyways, and allow excellent tracking of anyone they care to already. The chip will allow tracking of every place you enter.

Shouldn't be long now for the chip as it is in the best interest of Homeland security.

I just find it all disturbing. All to save us from ourselves...
