Re: WTF is going on in Chicago?

Well maybe this is what it will take to get these idiots off the streets..

Believe me, the cops can't do it...no matter how hard we try..we are overwhelmed and outnumbered by this crap.

If one of you or worse ..your family memember were victimized and was caught on film..leading to arrest and conviction..you wouldn't be singing this tune..eh..?

[ QUOTE ]
It is a disturbing trend for sure. This is how liberty is eroded, slowly through the pretense of protection. Baby steps that end up with a result many people claim they didn't see coming. It is a process of removing one'e sensitivity to a reduction of privacy rights. You start with cameras on the street, and end with them in your home.

Of course, you say this could never transpire. I say you are wrong, woefully wrong. Where did the Third Reich start? They started with simply registering the populace. They ended by marching people into gas chambers...many of those people were clueless as to what was transpiring, because something like that simply could not be possible in their minds.

The short term benefit of these camera programs might look bright, but the long term ramifications are scary. Whether these programs will pass constitutional scrutiny is immaterial at this point, because the erosion process is in full swing.

[/ QUOTE ]
I think Mike, (as much as possible considering at times this really hard to do) just gave us the short answer version.
Kudos Mike I couldn't aggee more.

I personally think, (I know I'm gonna be flamed over this big time...some will oppose and others will agree)it least America and perhaps other countries too. A constitutional errosion or meltdown will inevitably have to happen before it gets any better, if it gets better at all.

Explain:
Crime, criminals minds, level of sensitivity, intereaction, education, foriegn influence, policies and trade, economic concerns locally and globally, and many other concerns have changed significantly and will continue to rapidly change. Thus, inevittably forcing constiquients and leaders to revaluate and reexmaine growing and changing needs.
Thus whats ultimately and inevitably effected is LAW. Local, State,Federal and global international law/s.

With that said, the check and balance democratic system is changing and the average ciziten is getting concerned and rightly so. Thus, for the first time in many people lives, they are LEARNING and getting INFORMED. This increase of awareness and understanding is forcing leaders to be more accountable and responsible. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

Politicans and leaders can talk, discuss and intelligently debate with the intent to resolve. The people are resigilent for a limited time then when the rehetoric gets nothing done. Well, now you got a bigger problem on your hand. Indeed, patenice is a virture, but most can only be patinet for so long.

This is it:
As a citizen and constiquent I'm honestly getting tired of the communistic mentality our government has adopted. I too, understand the value of saftey but theres definitely got to be a better way. I personally think, America is heading to a revolution, revolt. Because nobody(leaders and constiquents to determine laws to accomadate the change) is adequately able to keep up with the fast pace of change. Unfortunately, I see modren day Boston Tea Party happening. I don't won't it to happen but I can see it coming to that, because many have grown very very tired with the powers to be.

Ready or not, change is forcing this shift in the tide.
Be informed is all I can say or you'll believe and go along with anything because you won't be able to make an informed choice.
Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

"Anyone who tries to fling crap my way better have a really good crap flinger."

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Yes, there's a bee in the pudding.

Drastic times call for drastic measure..

In this country..especially in the inner cities..I would say things are pretty drastic...I seen it first hand..been there, tasted it, smelled it, handled it!

In the Burbs ...not at all..definitely not as much concern...the crime stats proove that!

Exactly..and drive them to areas where neighbors are far more vigiliant of one another's well being/property and police response time is compared in seconds to hours..

EXACTLY!

Call for a male shot in the inner city...Police will get there eventually...maybe!!!

Call for a male shot in the burbs..the whole force will arrive in droves in less than a minute...give or take a second or two..

This is fact!

[ QUOTE ]
However, you are not left with a choice when cameras are installed on the street, in the public domain.

[/ QUOTE ]

The key word here is public domain. If you are walking down a public street - your actions are already public - there is no privacy to speak of.

And as for employers - I worked in the security area of a large firm - anything and everything you do is tracked - whether you know it or not. Your emails are read, and they can video tape you without your knowleged. And it's all legal.

And as for the whole business with a sign telling you - the cameras mentioned in the article at clubs - they will be identified - but everyone is still throwing a hissy.

At this point and time, it's easier for a criminal to find out everything about you than for the police to find and prosecute that criminal.

If people are this worried about someone knowing where they've been or what they did, you better stop using the internet, stop going to work, stop shopping in most any store, and don't get pulled over for a ticket - the police have cameras in their car. Don't use any discount cards or use the phone. It can all be accessed by just about anyone.

[/ QUOTE ]

Strange, you are both illustrating and missing the point. You cite all of these examples of where your privacy is being systematically infringed upon, and then you advance the argument that in comparison, these cameras are a relatively minor invasion. My point is not that these cameras won't serve a beneficial purpose, it is that these cameras are yet another enlargement of the core issue...our privacy is being slowly and systematically eroded in plain sight. This is a disturbing trend and one day we may wake up and live in a world we did not envision.

Mike

[/ QUOTE ]

My point is that when you are in public you don't have any privacy - you willingly give it up going out on the street or anyplace that is open to the public. There is no expectation of privacy when you are out in the open.

Everyone is so worried about giving up their privacy when there is no expectation of privacy. Why not try to catch the people that truly invade your privacy by breaking into homes, stealing your identity, or injuring you or your family. Instead everyone worries about someone seeing them walk down the street.

Street Crimes are overwhelming...

Home invasions are not..which precautions can be made..alot of homeowners have alarms, cameras, and guns and etc..and since the carry and conceal law have been in effect this crime has also decreased.

The victims most vunerable are business right next to interstates..that's a give in..they should put cameras there and do for good reason!

Big Bro my butt..with all these Cell phones..EVERYBODY has a camera!

I can totally see your point as well. I keep thinking of the whole sacrifice the one for the greater good - is it a greater good for the population to have these cameras at places that can help catch/deter crime and have a few people ticked that someone can see them walking down the street.
