But seriously, he makes quite a few very good points, like how totally Ruined Gibson was thanks to Norlin....

yes it is widely known that in the early-mid 80's Gibson was turning out lousy guitars with bad designs. those are to be avoided like the plague.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

The whole digital guitar thing is BS. Its neat that they are trying something new, but the technology they "created" has been around for years.

I fired all of management. That made things jump! But they were so bad, I didn't want them near the place. What happens is it has nothing to do with the people involved. It has to do with a sick culture. Once a sick culture takes place — a certain belief system — it's virtually impossible to fix.

              [/ QUOTE ]

They should fire all of the management at my company.

That's what's happening to my company. Spiraling out of control. "Look out below!"

Even though we all hate this (the greedy business model) - you got to give the guy credit. I don't think Gibson would be hear today without him.

My old '81 Black Beauty would have begged to differ. One of the 2 or 3 best guitars I've ever owned, and better than any other Gibson I've ever played--and miles better than any recent one I've tried. Sadly, I had to sell it to pay the rent one month. Some of the Norlin bashing is justified, but it's complete BS to say that everything Gibson produced in the '70s and early '80s was crap. As just one indicator, Gibson's fretjobs back then were miles ahead of what they produce now. Of course, it sounds like all of the craftsmen that created those '70s-early '80s guitars were gone by the time Mr. Harvard Business School bought the company.

From the article: "He's also taking a major risk by trying to make guitars and amps entirely digital — a technological departure as radical as the first all-electric guitars more than 60 years ago."
