Re: Port Security. UAE all the way

A Gallup Pole shows 90% of Americans are opposed to this.

When a UAE "security lapse" allows a dirty bomb to get smuggled into NYC or DC, maybe then there will actually be a move to impeach this idiot who is in the White House.

First of all, I don't agree with this, we need to stop this from happening. BUT...how do we do that diplomatically (sp?)? If I understand this right the UAE bought the London company that was running the ports. So now how does it look for us to put a stop to this because Arabs bought the company?? Again, I believe this is a bad idea letting them anywhere near our ports...but...what do we do??

And they paid FOUR TIMES the actual value of the company to obtain it. Why would Arabs do such a thing??

Ulterior motives? I've heard for years that it's only a matter of time before nukes are set off here. Shipping them into American ports would certainly be an easy way to it.

I think we ought to let the Mob run the docks like they used to do, and probably still are. The mob helped a lot during WWII. They are very patriotic gumbas.

I have to say, that this turn of events disturbs me...and I'm a Bush supporter. This just doesn't make sense and I don't think there is any way that it can turned around to be perceived otherwise.

                  This is a bad idea

the thing that should disturb people here is that without a massive public outcry the administration would have gone through with this and is in fact still pushing for it.

Re: Port Security. UAE all the way

I usually don't like to get involved in politically/racially charged threads, but this seems to be another example of how our beloved leaders (US and UK) are creating an atmosphere of fear and mistrust between "us" and the Arabic world. They used to be a lot more subtle than this, but now it's pretty much everywhere you look. Some bad shit is going down.

It was a rhetorial question, but YES, that is what I was implying. Something will "slip through" their security measures and our country will suffer for it.

This is motivated strictly by greed. This is a cash and carry issue for the President. However, this is going to backfire in a HUGE way.

I don't even pay attention to this stuff anymore. All it does it piss me off. Bush is about as incompetent a leader as you'll ever see, and not in it for anyone but himself and his "boys".

What cracks me up the most is that he goes on TV and says things like: "Gas prices will continue to rise, there is nothing that can be done... live with it".

I can't believe people aren't rioting. This administration is criminal and they are ripping us (the american people) off.

Hmm.... How secure do all of you think our ports are to begin with? I am just wondering here. A container ship comes in with tons of conex boxes. How many are opened for inspection? Of the ones that are opened, how much of the freight is gone through, box by box?

I don't agree with what is going on, but I think everyone has this false idea that our ports are secure now.
