Does the US operate any of the major ports? I know China, Denmark, South Korea, and the UK all operate ports currently. It's my understanding that the UK operated ports are the ones being sold to the UAE.
The same security is in place that has been in place since 9/11.
I'm more concerned about this from an economic standard. Shipping is freakin huge industry, and I'm sick of our workers busting their asses to fill pockets overseas.

As to GW, I can't stand him. He spends to much time on easy politics and not enough time on stuff that really affects the average citizen.

Actually, that's EXACTLY why this is a bad idea. Our ports are NOT secure. Arguably, port security is one of our biggest post-9/11 vulnerabilities. Let's not make an already bad situation EVEN WORSE by allowing arab control of the operations surrounding that vulnerabiity. It defies common logic.

I understand your concern for Vin. My boys are 7 and 10. You say you support Bush and his actions. The consequences are that your son may very well have to put himself in harms way in 7 years. The last thing I want is for our sons and daughters to have to fight Bush's war.

our ports have always been the weak link regardless of who contols them. Only a small percentage of container cargo is inspected. Dirty bomb making materials probably have about a 78% chance of getting through undetected.

To take it further they probably don't even need to ship it here, they can go to any university here that has a nuclear program and get whatever they want as the security is so lame there...

However, he is threatening to do something he has yet to do while in office...veto any legislation aimed at blocking this takeover.

I agree with Shawn about our ports..but I believe that risk is even greater than 78%..

everyone talks about tighter security...I walked in and out of the city hospital for almost a week for my Kid..totally unchecked..my whole family did..

they hire 90 year old blind people to hand out visitor passes..nobody got a pass..it's ridiculous!!

I could have blown up the whole freakin' place!

all you would have found in the rubble would be visitor passes and dentures.

So wait... I don't get it. Because the company is from the UAE, you assume it's a Muslim COMPANY (business entity). Now I can understand. But... What's wrong with letting Arabs into your ports? You really do believ they all want you dead? The sniper was American. Loads of your terrorists were American, and the CIA created most threats you have to deal with now. I don't get what the big scare is about to be honest. I lived in France during a big terrorism wave (though of course not as impressive as 9/11) and I was never scared. I lived in Amsterdam during the Iraq war, and the Netherlands sent troops. We all got death threats and warnings of terrorist attacks and no one was scared. I live in Edinburgh now, another country (Scotland) which sent troops, and the whole of the UK got threats. Again, I never heard of anyone being scared. At least not before the London bombings.
Do you guys even realize the probablity of being affected by terrorism? If you're scared of this you shouldn't even drive, you're much more likely to die of this. Sorry for being cliche. I just don't get why you all act so scared about it. Some of you defend your coutry's actions, and when time comes to pay for the consequences, suddendly everything is black and white and you're the good guys being assaulted. I'll never understand that. Sorry for being harsh but this thread showed a lot of things I really do not understand about the US mentality.
