  • Question for the IT guys

I have a Win2k install that's badly corrupted and I don't want to fool around with reviving it. The only thing of value on the drive is my Outlook archive and setup info for the several accounts I used Outlook with.

I've moved to a Win XP machine. Is there a way to transplant the Outlook data & accounts from the 2k machine to the XP machine without digging through my files for all of the account info again?

I'm IT. At least in my own mind. Plus, my wife thinks I'm IT in the bedroom. Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

This may help tho I'm no 'official' IT guy... In outlook...

      File
      Import and Export
      Export to a file
      Personal Folder File (.pst)
Highlight the top most folder (Personal Folders) and check 'include subfolders'
Choose location to save 'package' like desktop

Take that .pst file and File/Import into Xp machine

That's in outlook, outlook express may be same/similar.
And I believe saves everything. Don't recall if it saves pop/smtp addresses etc but at least all emails/data/subfolders are transferrable.

Dunno if it packages multiple profiles together tho.
Open each outlook profile and right click 'personal folders' and properties, click folder size button total should be near size of .pst file.
If you have (1) .pst file of 100mb, and 3 accts each with 40,30,30, then safe to say all are packaged.

If you are using Outlook, and not Outlook Express, search for all the .pst (mail file) and .pab (personal address book)files.
If you are using Outlook express, you will need to find the
.dbx files for the inbox, outbox, sent items,... etc.
Then you will need to find the .wab (Windows address book) file.
You will then be able to re-create the email accounts on the XP PC.
