Re: Death penalty for child molestors?

Thank you all for your compliments and support - that in itself means a lot. I have learned that talking about it is truly helpful for everyone - it definitely increases the awareness for everyone. And Todd is a wonderful man who has helped me make it through everyday.

To those who have supported a loved one through this, you have my thanks and my blessing. So many people can't handle that - I've seen people walk away and turn their backs because they don't know how to handle it. You are very special people.

To those living through the nightmare personally, you are not alone. There is always someone to talk to and places to go. If you or anyone you know need suggestions or someone to talk to about this, feel free to pm me.

As for this specific topic - rehabilitation is next to impossible for this. Often the only way to stop these monsters is for them to die. And just as there are with other crimes, there are different categories and punishments. As I said before, I would not wish rape on anyone, even my worst enemy. But these creatures need to be punished and kept away from society. To often these monsters are let out in society even after they themselves admit they won't stop because according to the law, they can't hold them any longer. The survivors, their families and friends will have to deal with the aftermath of what happened forever. The attackers spend sometimes as little as a year in prison and are once again on their way.

If this is what it takes to protect our children and ourselves, then so be it. It's at least a step in the right direction. I have trouble saying anyone should die, but in some cases I think it's necessary.

Dennis Miller said it best during a discussion about the death penalty.
"There are some sick mother fuckers out there who aren't going to "get better", so every once and a while ya just need to thin the heard." "So I say fry the fuckers and be done with it."
      I completely agree.

Re: Death penalty for child molestors?

I have purposely sat out on this topic so I caould see where it went without my input. The few guys here that know me personally, know that I am a correction officer. I work in a prison (actually, 3 seperate institutions, more on this later) specifically for sexual offenders. So I know a little about these pieces of inhuman shit. I have thought about this, and myself and other officers agree that until tougher setencing guidelines are put in place, eventually these guys get out.

I have some inmates that got a 8 year hit and some who have 12-15 year hits and higher.

New Jersey has "civil commitment" for sexually violent predators(SVP). I think 8 other states may have it too. Pataki has been trying to get it in New York also. Remember "Pataki's prisoners" in the news?

Here is how civil commitment works for those unfamiliar with it. eg: A convict gets a sentence for molesting children. He serves his sentence, but is found to have a mental disorder and still be a threat if released. He is then sent to a civil commitment unit. (we have 2 in NJ and I work at those occasionally too)
There he will undergo therapy groups etc. to try to "correct" what can't be corected IMO. Very few of these fellas have gotten out since NJ started this program.

They get a court hearing, on site, every year. They usually get told by the judge, "See ya in another year". Straight back to the wing.

These units are pretty nasty. The inmates are filthy, sex is rampant. We stop it when we can, but these guys can't help themselves. They know they may never get out.

But what about the inmates that max out of prison but don't meet the criteria for commitment? Unfortunately, they have to be released. They have served their time.

The answer, as I see it is to set the sentencing higher for SVP's. 25 to life would be nice.

I am all for the death penalty, but in the liberal society we live in it is unrealistic. How many murderers have been put to death since NJ reinstated the death penalty? I think ......zero. They are sitting on death row for life.

Kristi, you are a sweet person and I am sorry you had to endure all you have been through.

Shoot away if there are any questions or if I left anything out.

if not the death penalty it should 25 years actual time..not sentenced to 25 and get out after 8. Once you are out after 25 years (if you make it) castration is a condition of your leaving. There is NO such thing as reabilitating these wastes...they repeat time and time again..

Wow, thanks for having the courage to come out and tell of your ordeal. I don't know anyone that went through that, but I've always heard that talking about it and making it known is the best thing to help yourself as well as others.

And, yes, I think the death penalty should be put into place to rid the world of those scumbags. It's amazing how someone can do more time in prison for stealing or drugs, and child molesters, rapists, murderers do much less time.

Stuka, you sure give us an insider look at the system. I thank you for that.
Some, if not all, these guys are pure evil and seriously doubt they can be rectified. They went too far and wide from their humanity and I am not sure there is a way back.

A few months back this sick fuck in Florida kidnapped from her bed little Jessica Lunsford. His was a convicted sexual predator. One night he slipped in her room (he lived 100 yards away), took her in the middle of the night and for two days raped her. All the while cops, her father, family and neighbors looked for her under an amber alert.

The cops even knocked on his door but the system did not come together to tag his place for a in depth inspection.

When he was "through", he put her in oversize trash bags and buried her alive under the steps to his trailer. The coward animal got on a greyhound bus to Savannah, GA. About this time the system put two-and-two together, realize HE was there and tracked him down to Savannah.

The cops found her body clinging to her little stuffed bear and found tears on the bag as she tried to dig her way out.

I only wish the State of Florida could auction on EBAY a five minute one on one with that sicko. I will do my best to win it, because I will go medieval on him.
I can say I hate him and all that share his ways.

Stuka, I know in Texas they are pretty good about executing early, and often. Here in California they are stepping up the pace, but with automatic appeal process it takes a frustratingly long time.

Re: Death penalty for child molestors?

I have two kids, and I was also a victim of molestation when I was a child, more than once. However, I don't advocate the death penalty for these offenders...and I am going to tell you why.

Sometimes, when a possible punishment is increased for a crime, the end result is a more serious crime. Case in point, when a life sentence possibility was enacted for armed robbery in the state of Louisiana, many armed robbers simply robbed and then murdered the victim. Hey, they figured they were going to possibly get life, why not even the odds by removing the witness. This exact same mentality could lead to molestation and then murder of children. What would you prefer, your lust for vengence results in the death of your child...or your damaged child continues to breathe while the offender rests behind bars?

                    It is a real Catch-22.

Re: Death penalty for child molestors?

"Society sucks". There has been and never will be an "Answer" as to why people do what they do. "Society" is supposed to set mores that are followed by the masses. To go out of the norm has always been the "problem". Historically, those who did not abide were outcast, aka killed. Now, that there are 230 million of us, "Society" will have thousands, if not millions, of outcasts. Now, "Society" has gotten so large, that a group, society, can not deal with the wrong doer up front and personal. Like I said, it sucks.
I am a true ass set to this board.

Unfortunately, a lot of these children/survivors do end up dead - often by their own hand due to the horrors that surround them. The punishment at this point and time for sexual offenses does not fit the crime. Some states are better than others, but none are truely doing enough.
