• Disneyland hotel: yay or nay?

My wife and 2 sons (they'll be 4 and 1) and possibly my parents, are planning a trip to Disneyland in April or May. We're thinking of staying at the Disneyland hotel. I've always wanted to stay there when I was a kid (no reason in particular except for the tram).

How is the hotel? How close is it to the park? I know it's expensive to stay there, but is the convenience worth it?

I found a good deal on that Bavarian looking old school hotel across the street from the park on Harbor. How is that place? Is it a shithole like the Quality Inn, which is neither quality nor an inn? Do most of the hotels on Harbor offer shuttles to the park?

I know there's some sites out there with hotel info, but I'm looking for first hand experience. Thanks!

Is there a special "hotel" or are you talking about any of their various on propertly lodgeing?

I stayed on property for work serveral times. If you can afford the $, I say go for it.

What's the name and exact address of the Bavarian one? I can go down there in person and compare 'em.

All we did in the hotel was sleep so it didn't really matter how nice it was.

We went to Disneyworld a few years ago,and we had a party of seven(me,wife,4 kids, and my m-i-l).We rented a 5 bedroom house for 9 days MUCH cheaper than any hotel would have run us..

Can't say that it will work for Disneyland, but you might want to look into that instead if you are planning a party that large.

The Bavarian looking place is the Castle Inn & Suites Hotel at 1734 S. Harbor Blvd, Anaheim, CA 92802.

I await the flurry of "hey, that's more English Country than Bavarian..." responses

The Disneyland Hotel is nice. My sister and her family stayed there a few years ago but IIRC it was pretty spendy.

My wife has been looking at going the DL and staying at one of their hotels. She said their packages are pretty good if you consider food, transportation etc.

We have used http://www.getawaytoday.com ...check them out. You can see the different hotels. I have stayed at the cheap hotels and the Californian. Pretty cool being on the property and you get a few other perks like early entry. Plus, nothing beats walking from hotel to park easily...especially with kids!

What's the travel time from the Disneyland hotel to the park? 5 minute or 30 minute walk? How long does the tram take?

I dont know about Disneyland but it is definately nice to get a hotel on the property where you can walk right into the park. When we go to Florida we always stay at the Hard Rock Hotel because A. its a cool place, and B. Its a 5 minute walk to Univeral and Islands of Adventure.

Well, the monorail station is very close to the hotel courtyard, however, check out these D Hotel reviews

Also, check out about.com's cool link-filled article on how to find hotels in the Dland area:

Ooh, I know you said you know about review websites, but have you seen tripadvisor?

                              http://www.tripadvisor.com/

I already typed in some hotels

                              Castle Inn and Suites

but then I saw the popularity rankings, check this out:

TripAdvisor Top 20 Anaheim hotel list

Cool! You can scroll down the list, looking at ratings and average room costs...a lot of those are right by the resort...notice Disneyland Hotel is #15

If you're cheap like me, check out the Alpine and the Islander!

Also, notice that you'll read a lot of complaints about noise for the hotels on Harbor and Katella, NSS! They're all right on the major cross streets and packed in.

If money is no object, check out Disney Grand Californian , it's basically right in the middle of the resort.
