Okay, I've recently decided, that I wanted a room, dedicated to recording. I picked a spare bedroom to use for this purpose. I personally like to have a computer in my bedroom, so rather than take the one from my room, and put over here, I decided to piece together another one.
In the middle of piecing together, a new computer, a friend from work, decided he was buying a new computer, and I was able to purchase his, fairly reasonable. I figured this would make the perfect addition to my recording room.
The computer I purchased, is an older Dell Dimension 8100 (the year they made them with that suck ram, that's ass expensive to replace). It's a Pentium 4, 1.3 Ghz 80Gig HD, 386Mb Ram, Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card, and an old video card I put in (Geforce FX 5500 XT 256Mb).
The ram doesn't really bother me, for what I'm using it for, but if I do find it to be a problem, I can always use this other mother board, I've got, and ram, et cetera, however, that's work, and I've really got no need to (believe it or not, it's actually cheaper to buy a new Mobo and ram, rather than upgrade the ram, from this year Dimension).
I figured 100$ for this setup, with a 19 inch monitor, wasn't bad, so I took him up on it. Anyway, I digress.
The computer has a fresh install of Windows XP home.
It had 4 USB ports in the back (only downside, no front USB ports).
The problem is this. I plug the Line 6 POD XT Live, into the computer, VIA USB cable. It goes through it's little spiel (found new hardware, blah blah blah). Then it says "the device has malfunctioned, blah blah blah your hardware will not work).
Okay, so I figured, wtf? I hooked it up to a different USB port. It strangely enough, recognized it, and installed it, but then, did not work.
I tried a different port, and got the malfunction message again. I went back to the port it worked in, and it came up with the malfunction message.
All of that said, through several restarts, I just cannot get this god damned thing to recognize this. This is basically a moot point if I cannot record, if you know what I mean.
I've tested the cable, which is fine, and the Line 6 POD XT Live, still works in my bedroom computer, so it's not that.
It's something with USB, and USB devices.
Is there something I'm missing here? I'm pretty computer literate, as I've kitted quite a few systems, but this is baffling me.
Any suggestions?
