Sup?

well, i had to break down and clean my jam room, cause i got a new ( to me ) mixer and had to make room. i built a console desk for it, that i modeled after an OMNIRACKS desk.after i got the slope of the sides i wanted, it was just a matter of laying out what i saw in the picture, cause it is really just 2 sides and 3 middle sections with a couple of alterations that i wanted, like the computer platform on the bottom( i still have to make 2 bi-fold doors that will close from the sides to isolate the computer noise ),full bottom shelf in the upper rack, cutouts in the back to alow wireing to pass if for some reason it has to be up against a wall, and cutouts in the side desks to alow for keybord/mouse/controller cables to pass into the unit. one thing i'm also gonna do still is drill a cutout and install a small shelf under the mixer desk but over the computers so i can run a snake or 2 from side rack to side rack without going around the back of the unit to help keep it neat and tidy, like my room is now

anyway on to the pics......here are some before paint....

    after paint, putting it together...

check out the spiffy paint job...

    up and running.....

i have to get some good sheilded ref. monitors now, cause i cant even get these speakers near my comp. monitors.
omniracks price was over a grand my final price was 114.00 and a couple of nights work after i got home, cleaning out my jam room was the hardest part....

one bitch though,,i bought 4 sheets of 4x8 particle board at Lowes, and had them cut 3 in half with their machine,,their saw must have been/got loose on one piece, case i put all their cut sides to the back, and took my mesurements for the shelves and such from the 2 factory sides and used a T-square from the back, and the far right,,front desk part is 3/16ths lower that the other side and i didn't catch it untill after i put the shelf in and shot it all together,,,put the long end of the T-square against the back and sure enough the top and botton were on but the cut was a little curvy in the spot where the T-square had to sit for that shelf....so Lowes,....,tighten your damn saws up in their brackets

anyway,, i'm digin the new setup, but i might half to build an add on video shelf above the other one cause even though it is a 19 in. monitor for the D8B, i have a hard time seeing it way up/back there...maybe i'm just blind

thanks bro ..its just particle board,,,the 3/4 MDF was 8 dollars higher a sheet, and i didn't have the cash so i went with the 5/8ths particle board. i wanted 3/4 plywood but the b grade stuff was like 28 bucks and the nice birch was like 41 bucks a sheet

how's the durability on that particle board? I've always been hesitant to use it because I kind of envision leaving a trail of wood any time I needed to move something built out of the stuff. Did you need to treat it with anything or will the paint hold it together?

i thought about that too, but at the time its all i had to spend, so i got it. i did coat all the shelf surfaces with polyurethane(sp?) before i painted it, and put 2 6 in. wide strips that run the length from front to back underneath so i could slide it around. i used my trim guns and "L" brackets so it is pretty sturdy.

I think that is a bad place for the tower, by the speaker cabinets.

Something in my mind runs that magnets and hard drives aren't friends.

BTW nice desk. Durability shouldn't be an issue, if he's not moving it left right up and down select start...er sorry.

              "no precision cuts"

I've received boards that were 1/2 inch apart. When I complained, they said "no precision cuts". I said define that. I mean, a straight line, and same size should be a little bit called for.

In the end, I was able to keep the cut boards, and they cut new ones for me. It was 3/4 inch ply, and they fucked up 3 sheets. I basically received 6 sheets of 3/4 ply. Granted, the 1st three, I had to trim down, but still, free is free.

Very cool place. Did the D8B drop in price since the new Mackie digi boards are out ? I reckon you can get them quite cheap (cheap compared to what they cost new).
I am more of a analog guy. I guess my fist choice would have been a Soundcraft 6000 or D&R 8000/Dayner or something similar.
Yes you really need to get some decent reference monitor speakers. I can recommend Adam speakers. I use a pair of P33A and they are incredible. I also use them right besides my two computer monitors and as they are shielded i don't have any problems.

ya, i thought about the hard drive thing also, then i remembered that the hard drive is in another computer cause i moved like 30 gigs of stuff off it. besides, that is just a temp. home for that cause i just dont know where to put it and the printer, monitor and scanner yet ,

and hell ya, free is free,,,,,no sign at that Lowes,,i never thought that a strait line would be considered a precision cut.
