6'6" and about 260. Eat your veggies and stay loose. Don't let those nasty things stay in your bowels. Coffee is a laxative and beer is food. Re: Deal from my wife - lose 65lbs = a new Harley!

I'm 6' & was 228 - wanting to get down to 200. I did it before, but was 235 & got down to 186. The fittest & strongest I'd been in my life - only 3-4 years ago. However good I felt, people told me I looked emaciated, so I decided to add a bit - and didn't stop (ok, I split with my ex & hit the booze a bit, then met my new lady & started enjoying going out for meals again!). The weight loss was down to a good combination of exercise & "dieting" - I used the "Slimming World" plan, which is very similar to the new Weight Watchers plan, I think. BUT, it shouldn't be a "diet" - it's a lifestyle change towards healthy eating with the occasional "treat". If it's a diet, it's a chore & you get sick of it - the same with exercise. I burned out as I started exercising almost every lunchtime, most evenings & at weekends. Moderation is key for the food intake & the exercise.

Anyhow, good luck, mate - I can guarantee you'll feel awesome for shifting the weight. I felt unstoppable when I lost it before. Even if you don't get a bike at the end of it, you'll be able to sprint past them, stop them with a single finger & lift them with your gonads. Or something.

Re Atkins diet - I saw a report that said the reason it worked was that you just couldn't eat loads of meat (by itself), so that limited the calorie intake. When I go to barbecues I rarely eat the green stuff, but also don't eat loads of burgers 'cos I start feeling "packed" quite quickly. So that limits the calories for me - it's a pity that when I go to barbies, I drink shitloads of beer...............

Caloric intake- portion control will always be a factor .. but think about the amount of things we eat that has processed sugars on top of carb laden foods that turn into sugars.. for some people their pancreas cannot process enough insulin to take care of that..

If the scientific community really understood human metabolism there would be no obesity.

I've done both. Back in grad school I used to spend 90 minutes/day in the gym and ran approximately 30 miles/week. I cut out all sugar and nearly all fat (no cheese, no meat other than tuna or chicken breasts, etc.) and lost 50 pounds in 2 years. The second I cut back on the running I started gaining (bad) weight again despite a relatively controlled caloric intake.

A couple of years ago before my Alaska trip I did Atkins for a couple of months. I didn't have time to work out at all but I dropped 38 pounds in 2 months and felt better than I had since high school while not counting a single calorie.

Obviously we're still living in the era of flat-earth nutritionists because the conventional wisdom, at the bare minimum, isn't even close to telling the whole story.

Re: Deal from my wife - lose 65lbs = a new Harley!

Although i'm only 19. I realised i was an unhealthy weight when i was with my last girlfriend. She used to always think i was anorexic (sp?)so she guilted me into eating more, but more crap. So when we broke up, the next day i joined the gym. I went to the gym for weeks and weeks and NOTHING happened. Even though i changed my eating habits, it done f*ck all.

So i quit the gym, bought myself some weights, changed eating habits even more and started walking alot more (about an hour a night as well as having a very active job). I lost quite a bit a weight, bulked up with muscle and felt a hell of a lot better. It built up my confidence a bit too. The best thing that worked for me, was the working out at home and not eating/drinking sugary stuff and limiting my alcohol intake to just 4/5 bottles a week (some times longer). I could probably eat better still, but i just eat in moderation and try to keep active. Hope this helps in some way.

The diet is healthy and it works. Most people condemn the diet without even investigating it. You don't eat UNLIMITED amounts of meat, cheese and butter, etc. There are phases to this diet. You also can do the diet in many variations. THIS diet is widely used for obese chilren and has been since the '70s. I know a pediatrician, this is fact. My ex-wife's uncle could only control his cholesterol through Atkins. He saw how it worked so well for me, and started the diet. He then discovered that his cholesterol was coming down as a result. Whenever he stopped the diet, it went up. Through Atkins he was able to avoid using a Statin. That is a fact. You can eat tons of red meat with Hollandaise all over it, or you can eat low fat protein. It is a choice. The KEY is to get rid of useless sugar and wasted carbs...to eliminate shitty processed food. It has worked for millions, an continues to do so. It has kept me thin for a decade, although I don't do it hardcore any longer.

Thanks, man! I do try to hide it: I've had a VanDyke beard for years to hide the chin, I wear lots of black, with shirts untucked. You guys at NAMM probably remember every time a pic was about to be taken, I was quickly taking my hair out of the ponytail and fluffing it up like a girl!
