Re: I did something so stupid...

I'll tell you what is worse. Two years ago my wife and I went with a buddy to see a concert. We never used door keys since the primary entrance (for us) was through the garage. Well, we didn't take our house keys and just planned on using the electronic keypad for the garage door. I guess when we left she or I must have switched the keypad "off" and upon returning found it didn't work.

It's 3AM and I don't have a way into my own house! Both of my dogs are barking inside going nuts and I'm concerned the neighbors will call the cops, mistaking us for burglars. Well, my only resort to getting into my own house was to kick the back door down. My friend thought it would be a good idea to hold onto the door knob to keep the door from flying into the interior wall when the latch gave way. So he grabs the knob and I go for the first kick. Of course I kicked him dead in the hand.....LOL.

Long story short.....after about 20mins. I finally was able to kick the door in and get into my house. My friend went home with a very sore hand......and the neighbors never did wake up to see what was going on.

The exact same thing happened to us last summer!!
We had been gone in Corpus Christi for a week, came home... couldn't get into our house. Same thing had happened when we closed the garage, which we also use as our primary entrance. Dammit!
Even though we had our keys to the house the front door had the bolt thrown from the inside(safety feature, no key). Couldn't get in through the back glass doors because they were also bolted from the inside.
Keith had to bust the back bathroom window open to get in the house. Then we had to pay $250 for a custom framed frosted window to be replaced.

Ok, here's a few ideas:

Look in all your cabinets, just inside behind the door in the corner.

Look in your wallet

Look under the seat or in the tool compartment of the bike (if it has one)

Look on top of the fridge

Look under the VCR/Cable box/DVD player/Stereo

Look in the fridge (hey, ya never know)

Look under your computer/monitor

Look in the bike's ignition (you'd be surprised)

Look in the mailbox (you'd be surprised)

If you have a shelf where you keep your DVDs/VHS, look on top of the cases

If you have any sort of displays (bikes?) look amongst them

If you have a particular pair of shoes/boots you wear only when riding the bike, look inside them

Look on top of the doors

Look under the phone

If you keep it in a garage and have an open shelf nearby with any sort of cans, look on or under the cans
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

FYI about the keyring: Usually motorcyclists carry the bike key separate because you don't want to have a bunch of keys hanging down on the bike jangling around and scratching stuff.

Zeeg, I keep all my keys in a cup on a counter by the front door. Do you have a filing cabinet? How about a box in the closet?

I put my extra keys where I keep my guitar "tools"..in a rack drawer..it's not in a rack..just on top off my stack...everything I put in there stays in there..because it is out of reach from my kid..

did you put it in a ..out of sight ..out of reach place too...for kid purposes...

just thinkin'..

I remember that I found the key in our kitchen junk drawer where I normally keep it. I decided to go out to the garage, and see if the bike would start. I didn't take the battery out this year, so I figured it might need recharging. I cranked her a couple of times, and sure enough, she was sounding kinda weak, so I decided to leave well enough alone, and wait until the next week to take out the battery and charge it. After that it kinda fuzzy. If I did the same again, I would probably put the key on my keyring, or back in the drawer. I honestly don't actually remember putting it anywhere. I most likely left it in my pocket, but I checket all my pants and jackets, and no luck.

I keep all my spare keys and my motorcycle keys hangin in the same cabinet as my coffee cups. When I am done riding for the day, the key gets hung up.
