    Re: is a 15\" radius neck small or large?

    The radius has nothing to do with the size, just the "roundness" of the fretboard. 15" is very "flat" feeling. My favorite radius actually.

      A 15" radius is a relatively flat fretboard. So the circle defined by the radius is large. The neck thinkness would be defined by other measures.

          I've seen this question asked quite a bit, so here's a little diagram I did to help explain "fretboard radius".

          This thread should probably be in the tech Q&A section.

              No. Fatter has nothing to do with it. Look at Marks diagram again. the radius is simply the arch of the fretboard.

                  If I recall, Jackson's trademark neck is 15" to 16". So the more you get high in the fretboard, the flatter it gets.

                    The back of the neck can be most any shape independent of the fretboard radius. The radius describes how curved the actual freboard is (not the neck shape).

                      This is the most simplied and accurate answer. Kudos.
                      If there ever was Q&A that nailed it dead on, this would be the one.

                      Fretboard = radius = higher number = straight/flatness.
                      Back of neck profile/shape = Fatter/wider, roundness even flatter would be an acceptble reference to the neck profile.
                      Warmoth's web site offers various neck profiles.
                      Should go read and check it for better understanding.

                          the models (at least model 6) are very flat...i'd guess 15" to 16" as well.
