Re: Cheap Dell OK?

I'd only recommend building your own if you plan to use it for gaming and recording, but if you just want surfing with a side order of multimedia, get a Dell. I've built all my computers because all the "ready-mades" were either geared for gaming (better video cards) OR multimedia (better sound cards, bigger drives, etc), cost more than I could build it myself for (since I was not tacking on labor and logo costs), and I wanted one that could do both gaming AND multimedia, with the better video card AND the better sound card and larger hard drives.

I still build my own for those reasons, even though I don't game on the PC anymore.

But that's me. If all I wanted was internet and email and stuff like that, then I'd grab a cheap Dell.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

I agree with going with the cheap Dell. Regardless, you get a warranty (good luck with tech support!) but for the coin you can't go wrong...slap in a little more memory and look away.

Ron,
check out -MWAVE.com and build your own system cheap. I used to pour tons of memory into them years ago, they are cheap with all the latest and greatest to build a system with.

check out the dimension 3100 desktop with the 17" LCD and the 512 MB of memory and Pentium 4 processor. Great price if you ask me. Expires 3/29.

Ron,

Have you tried calling them? Sometimes those help desk/sales types can authorize deals like that. Worked when I got my Gateway laptop. I have heard of Dell doing similiar things.

They can give you discounts for the most random things. Make sure when you call them up, to be real chatty and nice and ask if they are busy today. You know, just be nice...I know that's hard for you Ron Oh yeah, and definetely (spelled wrong on purpose) don't correct their grammar and/or spelling

$479 for that 3100 is about what I was gonna spend! And a 17" flat monitor - cool. Thanks Irfaan & Seventh! I'll call tonight and yes contrary to what some of you may believe, I can be a nice friendly person!

In the same email there's also a promocode for getting accessories at 25% off. But I seem to have lost the email. If you need it, badger one of the online sales dudes for it.
