We had to say goodbye to a pet last SAT night. It was her time.

I am comforted by the fact my house (and yard) is still filled with 5 dogs, 2 cats, 1 bird and 4 fish.

Very sorry to hear that, Jack. I know how it feels. She was a happy kitty while you had her though, that's what counts.

I miss my Budger still. He died in 1992 at 15 years 8 months, and I haven't been able to bring myself to get another cat since then. I think that's been unhealthy for me though, so I recommend you adopt another cat after a suitable period of respect for Socks. Hope you feel better soon, man.
