The same thing happened to my cousin's house in CT. Damn car drove right up on the sidewalk and lawn and crashed right through their living room. Luckily no one was in there at the time, but you have to be doing something wrong 95% of the time for something like that to happen. Yah, brake problems, swerve to miss a cat or whatever, but people need to be more careful when operating a vehicle that can kill and cause major damage

I'm with you on this brother! The bottom line is they are either drunk,speeding or doing something really stupid. Possibly all of the above. I don't no how this happened? I was driving along, minding my own business and this house just jumped out in front of me. And people have the freakin nerve to ask me why insurance rates are so high! Read the newspaper or watch the news and you will get your answer. I feel better now.

When I have this happen, it usually is the cars fault. A little voice just pops up right after a do a Turbo Boost in my highly modified black 84 Trans Am and says " Hey Michael, I think I am just going to drive though that house". It goes into Auto Mode and there is nothing I can do about it.-Lou

well here..we have this thing called winter. Winter produces significant amounts of traps that your vehicle and driving may not be prepared to handle. These entail: snowy conditions, blizzards (minimal visibility), snow drifts up to 3ft or higher, freezing conditions, ice, sleet, freezing rain, black ice from exhaust (deceptive and difficult to see), slush (try driving thru a patch inches thick of this crap during a hiway lane change that you just hit) etc.. any one of these..you hit a spot you didn't see and were unable to avoid the right way in certain traffic conditions.. you lose control. Nothing like seeing a vehicle hit a wall and go careening and spinning across 3-4 lanes of traffic finally stopping after crashing into a guardrail less than 50 ft in front of you.

Now Billy Joel, there's a story with a completely different set of circumstances.

The details in the article were very minimal.

I'll agree with you, Ron, when you say that people that "lost control of the car" were just fucking around. However, I don't think it's impossible to lose control.

-Slick roads. Apparently Charvelguy knows what winter-driving is all about! Fun, ain't it bro?

-Car problems. What if somebody's brakes go out?

Losing control is usually marked off as "Driver inattention" on the OH-1 MVA crash reports!

usally is operator error... depends on the state..here if you are rear ended its 'no fault' 100%.. so typically not the impacted vehicles fault as had the person who reared you been paying attention or observing conditions to take corrective action.. it would not have occured.

Driving in bad weather is as easy as driving in perfect weather- as long as you remember that just because the sign says Speed Limit 55 that is NOT the LOW limit, it's the HIGH limit. And it doesn't mean you CAN do 55 in all weather, that means you can ONLY do 55 in perfect weather.
If it's raining, reduce by 5 MPH.
If it's REALLY raining, reduce by 10 MPH or more.
If it's snowing or there is a chance of ice or sleet or snow or there is snow/sleet/icce on the ground (but is not falling at this very moment), 20 MPH is the fastest you should go at any given time.

This means everyone, not just people that don't have Michelin All-Weather Radials or snow chains.

And for God's Sake people, BACK OFF! Maintain at least 5 car lengths from the car ahead of you even in perfect weather in the city - you cannot draft below 60 MPH, and drafting is illegal. Not to mention if you're nose-to-tail with some clown that decides to go postal in traffic, you don't have the room to get away, so back off and stay that way.

We get that around here a lot, but it's usually some douche looking for an easy insurance scam that jumps in front of a Semi and slams on the brakes hoping to cash in.
Most times they Keep On Truckin.

There was one one of these here last Sunday in which a pickup truck lost control coming down a hill, and plowed into a mechanic shop. 2 people...the female passenger was killed instantly. The driver was treated at the hospital, and released with only minor injuries.

The problem is usually where the posted is 65 or 70mph.. you get guys that still fly by at 60-65 in drifting conditions with a good inch or two base on the road. Here, you would be in the very very low minority if you were to drive 20mph in the snow on the highway unless visibility is zero.. they would be more likely to cause an accident if they did.

Speaking of losing control of a vehicle.......

Last week at around 10 PM, I was sitting in my room noodling on my Charvel acoustic when I heard this rumbling and then felt the house shake a couple seconds later. At first, i thought my 3 cats were just chasing eachother and knocked something down, but I heard my Dad say "what the **** was that" and then proceeded to go outside. I threw my shoes on and went outside to find a Toyota 4 Runner had hit a tree and street sign 3 houses down, drug them with her past 3 neighbors houses, and smashed into the tree between my driveway and my neighbors. When she hit my tree, the street sign pole, which the car was dragging with it, got launched right into the side of MY HOUSE!!!!!! The young girl said she didn't remember what happened and was crying hysterically. My dad saw some paper out on the passenger side and she said she was coming from rehearsal. So I believe she was looking over at her lines or whatever and veered to the right and then continued to clear a 145 foot path across my neighbors yards [img]/images/graemlins/what.gif[/img]
