Well, I would say you are in alot better hands than 50 years ago..you can take comfort in knowing that today has alot of technology to offer. I would thoroughly research your medication tho just so you are familiar with all the upsides and downsides. Take care!

Hope it works out, I've had some concerns with my heart, bad family history. high cholesterol etc.. and usually the first step is they put you on tread mill and run you til your draggin, if you don't have a heart attack they figure you're okay, just 2500 bucks poorer

                Ken...good luck man.
I remember I went thru the same thing a few years ago...and I was worried just like you are now. I went thru the battery of tests, and they determined I had hypertension (which was genetic, and now under control with meds) and an enlarged left ventricle (due to the hypertension).

They tell me I'm at no immenent risk while it stays under control.
I wouldn't worry bro...the stress can make any heart sitch a bad one. Hell...they may just tell you to watch your diet and give you some meds to keep it in check.

At any rate...good luck man, and I'm sure everything will be cool!

ain't that the freakin truth...if you live past the sticker shock of the cost that insurance doesn't cover your heart must be strong.

Hey Ken, it's good that you are on top of this. I learned I had congestive heart failure at age 40. I went to the ER in a state of collapse - not a heart attack, but my kidneys shut down and my BP was 208/140!

It's 8 years later; I have other problems too (diabetes and a stroke in October 2003) but I am still here. Note the stroke happened because I became unemployed and couldn't afford my meds, so TAKE YOUR MEDS!
Do what your doc says and also, stick out the stress test; if you stop before they say, and can't go on, they do a test by injecting a "medicine"
into your heart. This "medicine" makes you feel as if you ARE having a heart attack - the docs say it doesn't, but food for thought. Tough out the stress test, you may feel like you're dying but it's the better way to go!

You're in my thoughts and prayers, friend!

                    Regards,

                    Rich

Well it seems you are doing OK. I got my heart story. In 1975 I had to have a physical to run a group foster home. I thought I was seeing my regular Doc. But this guy turned out to be the team doctor for the Raiders and a cardiologist to boot. He listens to my heart and says I have a murmur. Well, that stressed me out!!!! My moth went dry and my palms were sweating. It took 20 minutes for me to somewhat settle down. Then he runs an EKG on me, and my heart palpatated. Damn, it almost jumped out of my chest. He asked: "Did you feel that?". Then he wants me to take a stress test. And I asked how much would that cost. $350. That stressed me out!!!! I just left. And here I am today. Alive at 55.
I am a true ass set to this board.

You'll be OK..just listen to the docs and take care of yourself the best you can..

Yeah, Heart probs run in my family Big Time..I'm retired on a disabilty now..so I'm pretty inactive and I love food..but I'm not gonna sweat it..and I'm gettin' old..

                        Good luck man!!

Sometimes something as simple as acid reflux can cause symptoms similar to heart problems, reflux spasms can trigger an adrenaline surge and it seems like your having a heart attack for many conditions medications can really do the trick, I've been on blood pressure meds and Lipitor for a couple years and can really tell a difference. If for some reason they want to do more testing after the stress test, ask your doctor if one of the new coronary MRI machines is available, while not as definitive as an angiograph, it is non intrusive.
