  • itunes idiot needs help

So I'm doing the whole I tunes thing for my wife and kid and I buy a bunch of songs from the music store.
Everything is cool and exciting until I try and burn a cd for my truck.
WTF! The files can not be burned.. I don't understand this.
I mean I paid for the songs, I have them on the Ipods, why can I not burn them to a disc. Furthermore, the Burn Cd in the Itunes doesn't even work so I cant see why its even there as an option.
I guess my question is can these protected MPEG-4 files be converted to a Layer 3 MPEG so I can burn the songs I paid for to a disc...

    Thanks in advance,
    Your slightly aggravated user!

It should allow you to burn CDs. I use it all the time, never a problem. I'm going to assume you are using a PC and not a Mac. Have you gone into Preferences? I dont know if the menu is the same in a PC but try preferences/advanced/burning click on Audio CD, maybe it is set for data.
Come and get one in the yarbles, if you have any yarbles, you yunick jelly thou!

"WTF! The files can not be burned.. I don't understand this."
What exactly is the message you are getting?

"Furthermore, the Burn Cd in the Itunes doesn't even work so I cant see why its even there as an option."
Hate to ask a question like this. Are you sure that it is a drive capable of writing and your media is ok? How do you know it does not work? Any specific messages?

I also am having trouble burning from iTunes.
I bought Dream Theater's Train of Thought CD off iTunes, and it will not burn the entire disc. it gets like 6 of the 7 songs on there and the 6th one is fucked up. now again these are files I brought from iTunes so they are in their format. and it's not a problem with length, the cdr's I'm using are 80 mins long, plenty of room, even for a DT cd.

I also have already did the preferences thing, made sure it was an audio cd AND set the burn speed low. still it messes up halfway through or most of the way through. I've coastered several discs trying this shit.

        any ideas appreciated...

how are you doing my good man? I wanted to tell you that I found a place on the internet that lets you download tunes for free, but they say that viruses have come from the site and messed peoples computers up completely. I have been on the site for 7 days now, and I have downloaded over 600 tunes for free like napster used to be in the beginning.

nothing bad has happened to me yet, and i've made like 12 cd's so far. but you never know what could happen. I have norton anti-virus, maybe that's what is keeping me from getting a virus. just a tip for you, i've been downloading like a maniac and it has been smooth. proceed with caution though, i heard people have gotten really messed up from it, I don't care anymore about much, so i said what the fukk, let's go for it. works like a charm so far. just a tip for ya.

          Take it easy.

I use this to convert mp4 to mp3.

Download Audacity for free. A free multi-track audio editor and recorder. Audacity is a free, easy-to-use, multi-track audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and other operating systems. Yes... I believe the reason that the files cannot be burned is because of the file type. Try converting them to .mp3 or .wav as Hammer suggested.
Oh yeah, Im a big help.

You can burn each playlist only 7 times,if you have problems burning them make a new playlist with a different order to the tracks and try burning that playlist.

hm. weird. i know that there's a bit of copy protecting, but you should be able to burn discs. even when i was using itunes on a pc, i never had any issues with my purchased music files.

                      Ah, thanks I'll try that.

and Emmy, I would get 6 songs burned but it would quit and error out prior to burning the last song. so it does burn, just not completely or correctly.

well, in itunes, it's not intuitively obvious that you have to create a playlist first. most cd burning programs just let you drag/drop mp3's or whatever into a burn list, then you click the burn button and you're done.
