  • Reb Beach and more..

I have been getting into Reb's solo stuff. Jeez... he is REALLY good.
His combination of legato and tapping is actually pretty unique. Masquerade has great songs and outstanding solos in it. He reminds me ALOT of Tony Macalpine.
I haven't heard a bad song yet and I understand he has quite alot of material.
Another CD to check out is Vetru.
Very good stuff. Richie Kotchen on guitar. That violinist chick Karen from Yanni's band. Its some quality stuff.

Reb is one of the best rhythm players ever too
I suggest his Fusion Demos record, his most insane playing is on it.

You ain't kidding!!! The rhythm patterns he plays are excellent. Even the tone is outstanding. If that is the Kitty Hawk Quattro I gotta get one.
I also heard he may have used Brunetti.
I will say one thing... Reb Beach's trems REALLY float. Warbles and probably the most dramatic pull ups I ever heard. It almost sounds like a whammy pedal.

Winger's "Seventeen" has one of the most badass riffs ever written, that song is pretty hard to play too.

The highlight of the Masqurade record is the solo of "Sorrow Stained Eyes" VERY emotional playing, it gives me the goose bumps.

Reb's whammy bar tricks, harmonics and tapping are out of this world

Regarding Winger.. I like the opening riff in Hungry. Actually, that entire album rips. I also agree... almost every Winger song is hard to play. We used to do Madelaine and it took a TON of practice between the complex rhythm's, the solo and the backing vocals.

Winger is pretty hard to play because they weren't no odrdinary hair band.

Reb was a very advanced fusion and session player at VERY young age. He played with Clapton when he was 16 or something

Rod Morgenstein is one of the best drummers in the world, 100% sick ass prog drummer. He has played with Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse solo project, he did a project with Jordan Rudess etc.

The amount of talent they had, no way they had easy songs coming

oh good, I thought it was just because I suck!

Reb used to credit Paul Taylor with coming up with a lot of their rhythm parts back in the day. As well as playing keys, he was a pretty handy guitarist in his own right.

I have a lot of fun playing Winger stuff, but I don't even try the solos when Reb gets up to speed.

You are right about Reb's playing though. I actually got into Dokken via Reb. Had to have that live DVD just for his playing, and enjoyed the songs enough to check out their back catalogue.

John, have you checked out The Mob yet? I don't think the CD is as well produced as Masquerade, and some folks around here say the songwriting ain't much chop, but I like it. Took a few listens, but once I was into it, I thought it was a very good album. Plus it has Reb all over it. And Doug Pinnick's vox!

Winger rules and so does Reb!!
I suggest to check out Twisted Sister's Love is for suckers album.
Reb played on that album and sounds great!
Some songs remind me of Winger too

                  Reb Beach and more..

                  > I'll tell ya something else Reb does VERY well,is his George Lynch impression. I have an mp3 of him playing Tooth And Nail with Dokken, and I always thought the little solo he plays before the song WAS George. I found an .mpeg of the same song minus the little solo before it and it looked like Zakk,he was wearing bellbottoms and a leather vest with no t shirt, shitkicker style, long straight hair, but what turned my head was the koa Pensa/Suhr with rosewood neck, and I knew instantly it was Reb. I opened up the mp3,and all of a sudden heard Don introduce him as Reb Beach while Mick was doing his drumroll during the solo before the song, never caught it before then. He's really underrated, such a shame that bands like Winger and White Lion were/are never given credit for being innovative songwriters and players, when too much emphasis was on making them look pretty for the chicks. The whole first Winger cd SMOKES. Great riffs and solos, unique, kickass tone, and groove. Tommy D.

That mpeg sounds like it was ripped from the Live From The Sun DVD.

The third, Pull, is their best disc. But it unfortunately was released after Stuart started wearing Winger t-shirts on Beavis & Butthead, so nobody paid any attention to the album.

Stewart's Winger t-shirt on Beavis & Butthead had to really hurt that band. It made them really hard to take seriously. I never got into them and assumed they were lame. I didn't even play guitar when they were popular. These comments are interesting.

Winger was somewhat difficult to take seriously even before Beavis & Butthead. And that's sad because they are all talented musicians, but they got caught up in the cutesy thing at the end of the hairband era.

Saw Kip Winger a few months ago doing an acoustic show.He was amazing. His voice hasnt suffered one bit, unlike many others from the great 80's. And he is kick ass on the acoustic.

Rebs solo cd is great, im still trying to figure out if it was him or someone else singing though.Hes a good songwriter above everything else.

He was cool in Dokken saw them 3 times with him.Don cannot sing good live anymore, always an octave lower when its time for the high notes.

The Mob i havent got that yet, and honestly, i was bummed out by what i heard. With Doug Pinnick singin i was expecting alot more.Maybe its one of those where i have to sit with it for awhile and hit replay a few times.

With Whitesnake, i hear guys bitching he doesnt do enough. My theory is you just dont notice how much he does because Doug Aldrich is the feaured player
And thats what you pay attention to.Honestly, Doug's solos have more fire and attack and makes you notice them more.Reb can do that too, he just doesnt with whitensake. He knows his role, and looks and sounds to me like he's enjoying himself a bunch.David Coverdale said Reb practically begged to be in the band which tells you his hearst in it and doesnt mind his role in the band.
