EJ said it was just their second night on tour. Well it showed. Ej was trying to be a little more un-stiff but ended up looking like a zombie trying to rock out. His tempo was rushed most the night and then he would over compenstate and be rushing to catch up. Every time he would bend to the high E it would go dead.
Tone wise it he was off the hook. He has the best sounding cleans IMHO. I find it funny he has a rack and board sitting next to him that he fiddles with to get his dealys the way he wants. Looks like a rig that belongs in the studio.
Now for Joe. He was soooo on . Dawn he can play and hae fun. His tone was great and his band kick is ass. He has Jeff LaRue back on bass !! His live stuff souds better than the CD version with a real bass player pounding the groove. Jeff C. drums were mixed to perfection and his playing was spot on.
One great moment of the night was Joe talked about a song he wrote, he went to start, turned to the drummer and the drummer was shaking his head. Then Joe comes back to the mic and says he was just informed by the band that he needs to read his set list, he was on the wrong song. Got to love a guitar master with a sense of humor.
I love EJ, Satch and Vai all very equally, but Vai and Satch get it the best. They know what they need to do to energize their fan base.
I will give EJ some credit he did crack a few jokes about playing the oldest song in the book, "the tuning song" as he fiddled with his tuning between every frikin song. He even made the comment/joke that you can't try to make it too perfect.....Follow that advice EJ !!!!
