I have around 20 guitars currently. I first started playing around 1975. I have had hundreds of guitars. Literally hundreds. I have no favorite. I never have. The only reason I only had 1 guitar for the 1st 3 years was because of money. I didn't have any.
I have never owned a guitar that I would consider "The one" however my favorite guitars out of all the ones I own are the cheapest ones.

If I had to only choose 1 guitar to keep out of them all I would choose my 1994 MIM Fender strat loaded with Duckbuckers. Its also one of my cheapest guitars.
Most of my guitars are partscasters. I have 5 or 6 fairly high end guitars but they mainly stay in their cases. The only gear I use that is high end are my amps. Vetta and Soldano. They are "the ones".

The issue I have at the moment is that almost ALL of my guitars could be "the one" at any given moment. I alternate between hardtails and Floyds, and my collection is typically split half-and-half. I have two more Jacksons en route, one of each bridge style, keeping with tradition.

Needless to say, after selling two guitars and an amp a couple months back, I've not only replaced what I sold but surpassed the previous inventory. The JCF is 100% responsible for this.

Funny how we end up liking a cheaper guitar better lots of times, I always have one or two semi higher end guitars ($1000-$2500)and half a dozen or more cheaper guitars (-$500), and my favorite is always one of the cheapies, right now its a Charvel fusion special I put together out of parts

"THE ONE" that i have, is my Ibanez Prestige RG. When i played it in a shop near me, i instantly fell in love with the look of it. At first i wasn't too keen on how it played. But i ended up buying it anyway because i really liked the look of it. After about 3 hours of playing it, i fell in love with everything about it. The slim/wide maple neck and fretboard, big frets, easy higher fret access and a stupidly great tone. It still is my favourite out of all the ones i have. Number 2 is my Ibanez 7 string and number 3 is my Strat. The strat has a lot of sentimental value because i've used it in my band, on recordings, live gigs, guitar lessons, everything. Although it doesn't play as great as my other guitars there's something about it that i just like.

I do the same thing, buy and sell guitars all the time just for fun, not to make money. Because I just love them hanging around. I have found the "one" many times, but it seems I find another "one" in my travels and sell one to help pay for it. Last year an Ibanez JEM, wicked fast neck versatile tone and real cool looking guitar. A few months ago it was a gibson explorer, the thing just plays and sounds awesome.... thought I would never get rid of it, but cant get used to that big fin under my right arm all the time, same with the Kelly, Today my "one" is a Jackson limited run SL2HT in clorine with EMG's, its light and plays and sounds killer....whats next?? Who knows

I haven't been through that many guitars, as I never seriously pursued a music career. I have been playing for 17 years, and I've gone through ten electrics in total (including my current ones). But I recognise the neverending quest for "the one".

Ever since I bought my magenta Charvel 750XL from Mike (Model88) last year, it has been my "one". Plays great, feels great and looks awesome, despite all the nicks and dings it has. I love the combination of archtop and non-recessed trem. No more hitting the volume knob by mistake (it sits at a level lower than the strings)! Funny thing is, it feels just as great even when the action is a little higher than how I normally like it. I have problems with that on other guitars.

My previous "one" was the Model 6 with OFR that I still have, and prior to that, a weird Flying V with v-trem that is now rotting away in a corner.

I only keep the cheap ones, because expensive ones are a commodity that gets sold off when my interests change. I also will keep gifts, with some small exceptions.

I don't have a guitar in my collection that I payed more than $300 for at the moment. And, I dig them all. Take, for example, my Predator. Every once in a while I will post it for sale or trade...I may get a little interest. But then, to make sure I want to move it..I will play it for an evening. Generally, I will come to the conclusion that it is a keeper. That guitar just "works" for me.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

If I could keep only one, it'd be my Carvin CM130 (LP Jr. copy) with Kahler Pro installed. It was $250, plus $75 to have the Kahler installed. The Kahler was given to me.

Other cheapies that I love are my Yamaha RGX1220S (basically their Soloist copy, but 24/75" scale, 2 humbuckers, $125!), RGX 1221S (same thing but HSS config, $300) and Carvin Ultra V $255. I also have a Jackson DK-2S and Charvel Model 6 that I love, but the aforementioned guitars would actually stay before the Jackson and Charvel.

That version of the Tracer reminds me a lot of a Model 1; do you find that also? I am interested in one of the 24-fret versions with the Kahler Spyder trem, I think that would be an awesome but cheap shred axe!

I had to sell 3 of the "one's" that I swore to my grave, I would never get rid of.
My 1964 Cherry red Gibson Firebird V
My #1 Warrior (the black one)
                          and my CS DeathWarrior

Sad to say...as my situation changed, and my divorce was becoming more immenent...I sold all of them. There was nothing I could do to keep them....nothing. I'm still heartbroken to this day. Others came and went thru many years, but they were the 3 material possesions on this earth that made me happy.

I've had many since 78, (BC Rich (warlocks), Ibanez (strats), Jackson (Fusion) shouldn't have sold that one, Charvel model 4, Gibson (V's), but settled on two a Gibson SG std. & Charvel model 6 both w/EMG's, one for that Gibson tone & one for that shred sound.......

I have 6 "keeper" guitars..geetars I will never get rid of.

Initially, I think it starts out with finding your own holy grail...and your "collection" becomes a part of that search..

I have found out that most Peavey bashing is out of ignorance, or people trying to justify paying twice as much for a "popular brand" guitar, a lot of People don't realize that while they (and every other guitar maker) built a lot of cheap guitars, they also made some pretty good stuff, I sold off a Tracer custom a few years ago mostly just because it was pink, and looking back at it, that was a really sweet guitar.
