Every society/community is based on some religion. It doesn't matter if the people in those societies belive in god or not.
Religion is the foundation of society. All the norms/rules/dogmas/etc. were taken from religion and they were used as "materials" to build up the whole society.
In some societies today most of the people are ateists but their society was build up by men who were led by religion.
You don't belive in god but everything you do or see is based on the bible.

The biggest bullshit EVER is the free will thing.
When some people say that if there's a god then why there are some people who are evil (murderers, pedophiles etc.)

Also I got a big fucking problem with Christianity and Islam because they are intorable. They don't accept any other gods and religions. They hate others.
That's a good excuse to start a war. People don't fight because the others don't belive in god or belive in a "wrong" god, they just want the others' posessions and religion is the best excuse to do so. Religion gives a free pass to do everything.

The crusaders killed half of my nation because we didn't belive in god, my ancestors were just stupid farmers but they had to be killed because they belived in trees and stones. It was a fucking fair fight too, we only had a fucking scythces and sickles.
The religion was forced on us. Today most of the people are ateists here, there aren't any classes in school that teach religion. But the whole society is based on religion wich was forced on us.

About Islam, it's clearly stated in Quran that one of the muslem's obligations is to fight against the people who aren't muslims in a Holy War.
Muslims don't scare to die, they know they have a good afterlife. The most scariest people in the world are the ones who aren't scared to die.
Same thing with the Christianity, if I am a good Christian then I'll go to heaven. Killing non christians is a "good" thing.

The funny thing is that many centuries ago you could buy an indulgence from the church. You went to a church paid some money, they cave you a paper where it was said that the sin wich you are gonna commit will be forgiven. And there was this empty space where you could write yourself wich crime you are gonna commit
You could write a murder there, then kill your stupid neighbour and when the representers of law showed up you could show them your indulgence and you were free to go. Halle-fuckin'-luyaa!!!

Religion has caused more killing than anything else on the earth.
The crusader wars, the Portugal, Spain, British, Netherland etc. colonies in Asia and America (killing Asians and Indians).
Even in 20th and 21th century we have those things. The Ireland thing, 9/11, Palestina etc.

The other thing that bothers me, Christianity and Islam says that the man is the most important, nature has to serve people, humans are the rulers of the nature.
As a big nature lover It sickens me.
People are destroying nature. Human beings are the only organisms on the earth who are destroying the planet intentionally.
I'm not some crazy PETA member, but I have a big problem when men are destroying the rains forests. The poachers, air and water pollution etc. makes me really sad.

As fo the Asia, I know a great deal about Buddhism, Konfutsianism, Shinto, Hinduism, Taoism etc. Most of them are by far more friendlier than Christianity and Islam. Most of them accept other religons and they strongly support that the man should live in harmony with the nature, not to destroy it. Also in Asia, those "religions" aren't relly considered as religions, they are philosophies.
They had their wars too, like in China when Konfutsianists destroyed Buddha temples. But in Europe the things were 100 times more worse.

In Japan, the most popular philosophy (religion) is Shinto wich is a very old part of Japanese culture, it is very nature and man friendly, a lot of Shintoists are also Buddhists, Buddhism is the second popular philosophy in Japan. And guess what, the crime in Japan is the lowest in the world. The society is based on the friendly religions therefore the society is friendlier. They have done their bad things too and got punished for it, but if you look how the things are right now then well it has by far less BS then in here.

All of these had much larger and more important goals and causes than simply religion.

That being said, religion did play an important role in the shaping of our Western world and yes it may have caused some bad things but it gave us so, so, so, SO much in return. The basic foundations of our entire civilization are rooted deep within the church and her strength as only pseudo-imperial empire to keep the Roman principles of law and life active in Europe. Basically anything that happened in the Western world can be brought back to that foundation. And you'd be surprised how much stuff the Church has brought into our lives isn't biblical it all.

Political ambition takes on many guises, and religion is a favorite. In the days when the "common folk" were forbidden to read the Bible, the clergy were extremely powerful and could pick and choose which rules they could leverage for their own gain. As with anything, a few lines from the Bible taken out of context can cause incredible harm, especially when content from the Old Testament ("law") is cited without reference to the New Testament ("gospel") where it is essentially overruled. Not really so different from recent examples of Islamic extremists using their religion to justify blatant murder. Religion is easily manipulated for the purposes of empire-building. Ancient religions sure had a hard-on for gods of war!

I really hate when I hear people blame religion for bad things that happen.... Blame the people that commit these atrocities and not who or what they pretend to be! It's a really stupid argument to say "well I don't believe because these evangelists are crooks" ... So what.... there are crooks in every aspect of life. This is what I do, I study culture, religion and history are huge part of it. It amazes me everythime what people have done in the name of god. And all the stuff I hear is from the professors who have traveled around the world, seen and heard everything. They know pretty much every detail about religion.
Everytime I hear something new, the more it sickens me.
Every religon is involved in something horrible.
I can't even read any books anymore because I know what's there.
