I'm sure that most of you guys agree that all those music award shows are lame (specially the MTV music awards).

I'm sure that many artists would agree too, but why they just don't refuse to be naminees or tell the organizers to fuck off in front of the public?

Are they affraid that they get banned from MTV or something?
    Would MTV do that?

Maybe that would be a good marketing move, telling "fuck off"?

All the serious artist take the award shit too seriously.
Maybe the awards are very important to get big album sells?

I think the whole music award thing is a phony piece of shit.

There was an AWSOME incident in Finland's music award show a couple of years ago.
They had this metal category there. "The best metal artists nominees are blah blah blah...."

The winner was a band called Kotiteollisus.

    The show was aired live.

The band went after the award.

When they were behind the mics then one of them said:

"Dear people. This what are you watching right now is a big pornography and we regeret that we came here to take part of this shit. There aren't even hot women here to who we can fuck in the ass"

Those dudes just walked away after that. There was a dead silence in the hall.

Shouldn't the other artist do the same?

I can never stomach any music or movie awards, with the exception of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. They already have fame and fortune, now we have to give them an award ?? They usually get on stage, act like a complete fool and think it is thier right to go off on some political tangent and think EVERYONE agrees with them.

Its all about exposure. The more you get, the better off you are. That is the reason they participate or attend. Most of them would rather not but its how they must play the game.

John is right, they need the exposure, and the record company will make them do it. More publicity means more sales, and these bands do it for a living.

The band that did that at the Finnish award show, well maybe they were brave, or maybe in Finland there's a different attitude. In America if a band did that, they'd probably be banned from MTV and the radio. It's okay for a band to be drunk and slip and say "fuck", that'll be a "safe" controversy and they just bleep it out for the later timezone broadcasts. That's why East Coast gets the real show, West Coast gets the bleeped version.

While I agree that most of the really good artists don't get represented in awards shows, I think they're harmless. If you don't like them, I'd just quietly not go. To go to the show and get up and say a big fuck you to everyone there, well that's not so amusing to me as it would've been 20 years ago. Guess I'm getting old and mellow.

Bear in mind that the award shows in America have better booze, drugs and women, and that the afterparties around town will be better than the awards show itself. Good reasons to go even if you don't give a fuck about the awards.

Exactly, people don't realize how big MTV is. They literally own music on television. Piss off MTV, and no Television exposure for you. Piss off Clear Channel, and no radio exposure for you.

It's just like in the Metallica Some Kind of Monster documentary, where the radio station forces them to do this cheesy commercial for some contest ... and the stipulations where that if they did not do the commercial, their new album would have been blacklisted from airplay.

I kinda wish they had blacklisted that album

I wouldn't like it either, if I was in a big rock or metal band, but if fans, any fans (even if it is through mtv) want to acknowledge you, I feel that you can not simply say 'fuck you assholes, shove your award'.

Metallica got blacklisted from playing MTV awards for a long time, since they came out in the UK in '96 and played So What/Last Caress (instead of King Nothing) and trashed the stage afterwards.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

I guess you are right guys,
I would kiss MTV's butt too if I would play in a commercial band.

But some bands can afford to bash MTV, like Motley Crue or Metallica or whatever.

These guys need money just like the rest of us. Millionaires just have more bills. Its all about money and bashing MTV will hurt their wallets. Even Metallica needs to work. The money needs to keep flowing in.
