  • Guitar Hero for PS2

Just got "Guitar Hero" for Playstation 2 (birthday present) - it ROCKS! Only five buttons - but a good hand workout (although I played it for hours & it hurt a bit, so repetitive strain might become a problem!). Get it right & it's like listening to your CD of all-time-favourites. Get it wrong & you get booed off. Got through the game on "Easy" but on Medium, it's a bit more tricky........I was drunk at the time, though. Honest. Good timing & co-ordination exercise. "Hard" & "Expert" beyond my meagre capabilities.

Must be sponsored by Gibson though - the controller is SG shaped & all the guitars available as options are Gibbos (including a V2, Moderne & the other really ugly one that I can't ever remember the name of - let's call it Britney). Waiting for the Jackson version.....................

    Anyone else tried it?

i wanna get one for my PS2... looks like fun... that would be cool if they had jackson guitars on the thing.. does the guitar seem cheap or something that will last a long time.... thats one reason i have not got it yet is the guitar looks like it will break after a few uses....

I just saw it yesterday. I thought about getting it for my 6 yr old. Would it be good for him do you think?

I played it at Bestbuy one day. I tried it after a few obvious non-guitarists played first and they did horribly. I got all the way thru on Easy my first try hitting 97% of the notes. Was a little weird though having a crowd gathered watching me play a video game, then saying I did a great job

Jury's out on the controller - it feels light & cheap, but you don't hit it too hard (unless your co-ordination is as bad as mine & frustration kicks in - just don't have any lighter fuel handy & "do a Hendrix" ). I don't know how long it'll last, but I got through "Easy" & most of "Medium" in one sitting without any deterioration (except to my hand, kidneys, sobriety & percentage of notes hit [high 90's to low 80's average]). You can use a normal controller - might even be easier until three finger chords come in (if they do) - although posing like a rock god just isn't the same. (Note to self :- put full-length mirror in lounge).

Whether it'd suit a 6 yr old - depends on concentration levels & eye-finger-hand co-ordination - there's a nine yr old here who I doubt would do great & probably hasn't the attention span to learn. Bloody good fun after a couple of beers though - as long as you remember it isn't a dance mat game & stomp it during the mosh to Ace of Spades. Remember kids, drink & rock don't mix.

              Hang on.........was that right?

Have tried the "Hard" level - oh, dear. That's why I've never been in a band, then.

A friend of mine bought it here when it came out and we've played it a lot (fraternity house w/ 40 people) and it still works fine.

After some practice I can beat everything on expert, but still missing a decent amount of notes (usually in the solos).

It'd be great if they made it compatible with the Roland midi pickup, so you can use a real guitar instead of the Mickey Mouse button thing.

Wickedly fun game... I've had it since early December and the controller is holding up well enough, even through about 4 falls of four feet or so. The "pick" sometimes gives me phantom notes if I release it at the bottom of its travel. I'm a fairly crappy guitar player, but the game has really improved my sense of rhythm/timing. I would highly recommend the game to interested youngsters as it will help them build a very good rhythm sense (as long as they are dedicated enough to keep at it).

I saw this at NAMM but was too embarrassed to try it out. You guys are making it sound really fun!
