Same with the UK I thought. Your petrol prices may be higher, but you also have vehicles that get you a lot further to the gallon (AFAIK).

Over here...we have a lot of 6 and 8 cylinder pigs that get 8 gallons to the mile!

      You guys remember Enron?
Where do you think all the unemployed electricity speculators went?
They went to speculate on Gas.

Ridiculous electricity prices from speculators = ridiculous gas prices because of speculators.

i'd say the average is around 2,7 gallons per 100km, which is about 4,3 gallons per 100 miles.

You want to do something about it? Get a more fuel efficient car like a hybrid. Use public transportation. Ride a bike. Encourage your government to get off their asses and actually invest in alternative energy research. There are no viable alternatives to oil quite yet, but that doesn't mean there will never be any. We should have been investing in this years ago but I guess people would rather fund the middle-east terrorists.

China, India, and other developming markets are ramping up big time and their demand for oil is already strong and growing. There are very few remaining untapped oil fields. Yes Alaska has a few, but even optimistic estimates suggest we'd be lucky if Alaskan sources could cover 3% of U.S. demand.

There may be some gouging going on, but supply & demand as well as middle east instability are the real problems. Sadly these problems aren't easily solvable.

I don't own a car, partly for the reason stated below.

            It's not just the cars.

Japan has a superb public transport infrastructure, particularly in urban areas. The town where I live is on the outskirts of the greater Tokyo metropolitan area (an hour from Tokyo station by train), and it has two separate train lines that service it: Japan Rail, which used to be a government enterprise; and another private rail company. The part of Yokohama (second biggest city in Japan) that I work in has a JR station, a Yokohama Municipal Subway station, and a station of yet another private rail company. With that kind of saturation, there isn't anyplace that you can't walk to from the nearest train/subway station. Like how a lot of people in Manhattan don't drive cars.

You guys do know that the top two countries that imports oil (both crude and petroleum) into the US are Canada and Mexico, right?

Department of Energy Publication, April 14, 2006

Saudi Arabia is Number 3 for crude, and Number 4 for petroleum. And it's the only middle eastern country in the top five on both lists.

As far as I am aware, the UK has the highest fuel taxation in the world. I'm pretty sure it's running at about 85% of the cost going to the Govt.

you guys should stop crying like babies, wake up and take a look across your borders (and no I don't mean your state line, I mean your country borders!!)

regular 95 unleaded is $7 USD per gallon over here. (that's Norway)

Norway is one of the biggest oil industries in the world. 70% of our pump prices are pure taxes - that's income straight back into the pocket of the Norwegian government.

yet you are living in the world's single most oil consuming country - why should it be free?

Kill ALL repeat violent criminals and illegal immigrants that come here to exploit, pull out our troops and make a sandbox of the entire middle east, TAKE that oil, seal up all our borders for the time being, Take away all welfare unless absolutely necessary, temporarily stertlize all woman until they proove they're finacially able to raise a child instead of continuing the cycle of human pollution, all men that produce more than two bastards should be immediately castrated and don't send a single penny to Bono or Africa.. or any other ingrateful, clueless third world shithole..until we can take care of our own..

i put super unleaded in my motor snoogans so its even more expensive-but to be honest we dont drive as far as our yank brothers do to go to work so its all swings and roundabouts.turkey believe it or not has more expensive fuel than us and prob the dutch after that.I think the british goverment is too blame for our price here, its a fucking disgrace the vat they put on it!and the more it goes up the more money that pretend PM Mr globetrotting brown makes for Labour to piss up a wall in giving it back to friends for goverment contracts and all that shit they do

It does seem pretty ridiculous the GB would have such high fuel prices, doesn't a shit load of oil come from the North Sea rigs? I can see it for countries who don't produce any oil at all to have higher prices,

The taxes that most Europeans are paying is way out of line.

We could easily supply most of our diesel fuel demands with fuel made from Soybeans, It actually prodces more power and burns cleaner, right now there is more profit in importing oil, so its not being produced on a large scale, and god forbid an oil man like George and his asshole buddies would do anything to help out
I say the boy ain't right!

They did the numbers backwards. That should be $3.91.
