The scalping laws don't apply to someone selling tickets out of the state the venue is being held in. Ticketmaster saw to it that only ticket selling organizations are the only ones allowed to legally put any type of surcharge on a ticket price.

John, you're right. If people absolutely HAVE to go see a show, then yes they will pay whatever they have to. I won't. I want to see Tool very badly, but I will not ever pay $500 for a pair of tickets that originally cost $130. If the band got the money, that would be a different story, but some piece of shit scalper is getting the money instead. I won't pay that much on principal. I wouldn't pay $500 for a live lesbian sex show starring Alyssa Milano and Salma Hayak for christs sake. (well, I'd have to think about it anyway:ROTF: )

        Regarding high ticket prices....

If artists can't make money selling albums since everybody downloads, then it is perfectly reasonable to me that they have to make it up by touring and charging substantially more than they used to, within reason.

The real crooks are the ticketing organizations like Ticketmaster. These asshats charge a $12.95 per ticket "convenience fee" on a $24.95 ticket! Convenience my ass! They've made it so in most cities the only way you can get tickets from them is online, and they have the audacity to charge you a fee for buying from them. It is the buyer who is making things convenient for them!!!

That is brilliant! It could also be on TV with PPV and then be sold on DVD!

For me it is less the ticket prices and more the service charges... When you go to a concert you shouldn't have to pay some fucking stupid ticketbastard charge of 1/2 the face value of the ticket.

              Ah, those were the days.
That used to be the shit. I remember many times back is 88/89 getting in line right after school for tickets that went on sale the next day at 10a.m. or so. They were always pretty organised, a few people would start a list, of the order of the line and they would have roll call every couple of hours. To make sure people were still there. Between the roll calls everyone would go to the parking lot for the ticketron and party. People getting high, cars thumpin tunes, alcohol everywhere. I can't imagine that happening now.
Come and get one in the yarbles, if you have any yarbles, you yunick jelly thou!

I read some news story (can't remember where) that ticket prices are going up because concerts are no longer primarily for promoting album sales. With iTunes and p2p file sharing, people just don't buy albums like they used to. As a result bands now try to get as much money out of concerts as they can.

bah not impressed at all. I was trying to get tickets for the Minneapolis show via Ticketmasters site. Tried for 30 mins to order some and it kept telling me there were none available WTF? I placed my order at 12:00 on the dot as they went on sale.

I didnt try the phone route cuz I live currently in Madison WI . (4hrs away, wasnt sure who even to call)

just plain lame , I'm soo disgusted right now!

                            Same thing here:

Both me and my bud were online hitting the refresh screen just before 10 am until the search for tickets icon came on...it maybe took 5 seconds total to place the ticket number amount and the special keyword on the next page before searching for tix, then, after a couple minutes searching, bam no tickets available!!

I mean, you can't place the order fast enough, and there was a max 2 tickets per order max. The kick in the ass is Ebay vendors had tix for sale for the past 6 days with the stipulation that they don't know where the seats are yet, cos they haven't got them but they know they WILL get them!

Granted the Orpheum is a smaller venue, but you should be able to get something right when they go on sale...unless it's such a small number due to radio stations for giveaways and corporate BS taking so many.

Anyhoo, F-it, instead we'll see Soulfly at a local bar for less than 1/3 the price of the Tool tix, or 1/4 if you include ticketBastard fees.

ticket touting as it's known in the uk is illegal, yet i still see these thieving bastards loitering outside cricket and football grounds. they should be arrested, deprived of their illegal earnings, then given public beatings.

Guys, dont worry. Tool gigs consist of Maynard's back to the audience the whole time, the rest of the band shoegazing, and the entire thing sounding exactly like the album.
