I know. I saw Tool about 4 years ago, and it was exactly as you say. BUT, it was fucking awesome!!!

I have seen them a bunch of times and seen hundreds of other bands....they are by far one of the best shows to go and see play live!

From what I know they (ticket agencies) hire a ton of people to call and log on and get tix for them then sell them for 500 a pair.....assholes!!

Saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers for free at CBGB's (the band I was in opened for them in 1989).
Saw Lenny Kravitz for 7 bucks somewhere in NYC (1990).
Saw Jamiroquai for 5 bucks at the Black Cat (DC, 1994).
Saw Zebrahead/Fuel for 7 bucks at the 9:30 Club (DC, 1998).

The trick is to see bands before they make it big

I met a guy that worked for TicketMaster and I asked him how all this happens and he told me how it all works:

Let's pretend TicketMasters phone number is 1 800 555 1000... well that isn't the ONLY number they use but it's the only one the public knows. They call that number and it is rerouted to an "available number" ie.. 1 800 555 1001 or 1 800 555 1002 etc... and these numbers change daily, well these scalpers usually have someone on the inside that they pay to give them the "unpublished" numbers. When you call one of these numbers, it by passes the main system and you get directly to one of the operators and you can buy the tickets. Usually around 6 tickets at a time. Since these guys call the "unpublished" numbers at the same time everyone else is calling, the main number is automatically "busy". I think this is still how they do it. I don't think the scalpers are using the Internet but there may be a system they are using for that too.

I could see that happening via the phone lines. I know before ticketmaster used the program that makes you type in the word you see before searching on the net, scalpers had a whole system set up. Before, they would set up macros that would buy up several rounds of tickets right when they went on sale.

one thing I learned is, keep checking back for tix as the show approaches. they always release more for sale on TM.com.

this being said, I agree with everything you guys said about TicketBastard and their outrageous svc charges. $5 per ticket would be plenty of profit for them.

A friend of mine just paid £90 ($120) for Tool tickets. I just paid £15 ($27) to see Cannibal Corpse, and I can bet you I enjoyed it more than he will!

Maybe if you have real bad taste in Music :ROTF: All kidding aside, tool tickets at 120.00 is rather cheap. Obviously Canibal is a band that has seen better days and demand will always raise ticket prices but to eack his own and that I can respect
