Racing through Paris streets: short film

I had heard for years about a French short film called Rendezvous...it was listed on a couple Top 10 movie chase lists...but it's quite obscure

Shot in 1976 without permission or permits, the director Lelouch attached a camera to the front bumper of - allegedly - his personal vehicle (a Ferrari 275GTB) and filmed either himself or an F1 driver racing through downtown Paris at dawn. The film is less than 9 minutes long, was shot all in one take, and has no soundtrack other than the wail of the Ferrari engine and the screech of the tires.

Turn your speakers up and check out the hair-raising drive....around the Arc De Triomphe....through traffic circles...blown red lights...at one point up on the sidewalk....down narrow cobblestone lanes....all at between 50 and 140 KPH....I hope some pigeons were harmed during filming!

I have driven part of this route myself....it is scary to drive in Paris at regular speeds!

Personally, I don't think that was a professional F1 driver. Gear changes and selection don't indicate a top notch driver.

The video was cool to watch. I must admit though, I am a firm believer that this stuff belongs on the track and not public roads. It makes me nuts when I am on the road and someone is treating it like their personal race track. That film could have easily ended in disaster for some innocent motorist.

I have posted this before. The driver was a not a professional F1 driver, he was a French film producer or director. Doesn't matter, all that matters is the wail of that V-12 Ferrari. Nothing better than a V-12 Ferrari with Webers.

I lost count after about 15 or so blown red lights.
What a fucking idiot. At one intersection, you could see where he nearly clipped a pedestrian.
But yea... nothing like the sound of a V-12 screaming along.

Eh, that was boring...for the era, it was the shit I'm sure.
Search for Gumball Rally, nothing like excessively rich folx drivin the shit outta their exotics. If you can find the entire movies, it's much enjoyment.
Once a year treat, 2006 event comin up in June crossing the US and counting their speeding tickets.

There is another somewhere online of a random highway race between 2 cars but the sugar coating is the highway is slam packed, and it's all weaving which makes the speed that much more obvious.

There are lots of movies on youtube.com if one searches for "Ghost rider". This particular video is of a Hayabusa Turbo (499hp)...the 2nd part of the clip is best.

Also, look around for the "Getaway in Stockholm" series. You can see some interesting in car craziness from a 911 Turbo, 450HP Turbo Supra, an Escort RS Cosworth and other stuff. Very wild.

I love these kind of flicks. British Columbia speed guns stop at 160 km/h. I was doing 193 KM/h in my RX-7. It took them 8 minutes just to catch up to me where I could see the lights blazing. Ah, to be young and stupid, doing long distance 2 a.m. highway racing again.

336 kph = 208 MPH, well within the reach of a turbo Busa

If his speedo is stock:
336 Kph x .85 speedo error = 177 MPH

I've been to 165 MPH on my Busa no sweat.

There are planty of scenes where he is chugging in 5th and certainly exceeding 140 KPH. A 275GTB-4 will see the far side of 160 mph.

yeahh that should be way faster than 140 mph-even in my shitty car i can do over 140
fastest i have been is 166ish on a gpz900 when i was a teenager,the dial might have been out but it couldnt go anyfaster as it had hit the rev limit cut off point
I went on a back of on of those old zx10's(or where they 11's)bloody ages ago but anyway this thing felt like fucking space rockets when they started to sprint!
