Sorry I don't buy that right of survivorship in this case if you take that arguement, then you have to look at what each party brought to the "marriage"... what did she bring? nothing, nada, zip, zilch! It seems like we as a society always try and play a symphathy card for people who do things that are morally wrong, this is a case in point.

It doesn't matter what you or I buy man. It's the law, period. Id doeswn't matter what each person brought to the marriage. If it were a divorce, each would get half of the total that both made during the period. Since she is a widow, she gets ALL of what they both earned during the period. This is cut and dried, except that Sonny has his hooks into the good ol' boy system.

The old man pursued her for 3 years before she married him, as Ron discovered. Had she really been golddigging, well 4 years of marriage would have cemented her rights more than one year. Regardless, she deserves enough to be taken care of for life, at the very least, in the style to which he accustomed her.

If you've had an ugly divorce or got screwed by your ex-wife, I can see why you'd see it one way. But if she did more to make him happy in his final years than his blood family, then fuck them, they can peel off some significant cash and still be billionaires. If you want to think of her as a whore, that's your business. Even from that viewpoint you'd have to say she earned it making the old guy happy at the end.

Dude, I see your point of view, I just disagree. I have no ill will towards you whatsoever about this. I have just seen the other side of it, first hand. My broither in law was a WWII veteran and a distinguished man in many ways. He didn't deserve to have his children abandon him in his dementia and poverty, but that's what happened. My sister kept him at home long after he didn't know her. She could've kept him in a nursing home for half the cost, but she figured he'd be scared and alone there. So she spent their life savings to keep him with her. His kids never tried to help, they told her to put him in a home (eyes on the money). So there's another side to just thinking the family should automatically get it.

And in the Marshall/Smith case, there's $1.6 BILLION to go around! The son could peel off $100 million and not even feel it. He'd have it back in a year, most likely. He's just being vindictive towards his own father's memory and dragging his name through the mud with all this litigation. I just don't know why you'd trash your own father's memory that way. Greed I can understand if you'd be left a pauper, but when you'll still be a billionaire? And the son's in his mid-60s already, he's got 25-30 years left judging by his dad's run. Why waste it defiling his dad's memory?
