So how'd it go Ron?
The reviews of this movie are pretty harsh. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 19% which is lower than Silent Hill.
Also... What the fuck... Mission Impossible 3 is out? I didn't even know they were making one! Never seen a preview, ad, or whatever for this movie...

My bud & I went to a 4:30 PM showing...theater wasn't that crowded. While I knew going in that it was going to be lengthy (2 hours 29 minutes), I experienced suspense, mystery, foreboding, a great musical score, and even a couple "jump" (scary) scenes. The whole "secret" is a but muddled and the end seemed to drag on a bit (once Silas exits the movie a lot of life goes with him)...the scenes after seemed anticlimactic, but they were emotional.
There is much exposition, and that is to be expected because it's a very faithful adaptation of the book....critics seemed to really blast DVC for this but what they report as "dull", we of higher intelligence mark "cerebral"
I really appreciated the flashback scenes, and I especially enjoyed the "historical flashbacks" - one critic found these scenes to be "cheesy" but I feel they really help explain things visually (thus avoiding more of the talking head sitch).
I did find (and comment on) a few historical errors....they brought me out of the movie momentarily...but it was easy to get back into it. This isn't a "non-stop thrill ride" but there are plenty of exciting and suspenseful scenes interspersed throughout. The locations are beatiful, for the most part authentic and dripping with history....a lot of French is spoken but it's subtitled....consensus is that even though it's fiction it will spark conversation about faith, legend, and the lengths people go to for both....and the role of the Catholic Church through history.
Can't wait for Angels & Demons! Hopefully the producers will take a hint from criticism and inject more action into that one."Quiet, numbskulls, I'm broadcasting!" -Moe Howard, "Micro-Phonies" (1945)
