I like City of Evil alot. Good strong songs with catchy hooks. Great solos. However, I do like Waking the Fallen better. They have changed quite a bit since Sounding the Seventh Trumpet.

great musicianship, but i don't dig their newer stuff as much.

I just heard their City of Evil CD this week and I can't stop listening to it. Trust me the singer sounds a lot better on that CD than he does on the others. Their old CDs sound like Shadows Fall, with all the screaming and crap. The good thing about a CD is that I don't have to look at them, just listen to some freaking awesome guitar playing!

To me its like dueling Marty Friedmans on guitar.

Dueling Marty Friedmans is a pretty good example.
For those of you who haven't heard it... listen to the ENTIRE CD. There is alot of tasty shredding to be heard.

avenged is pure shit, however im not going to be an asshole and say that the guitarists suck, because they dont. but the suckiness of the band as a whole nullifies the guitarists skills completely

I like the newer stuff I've heard better than their older stuff. The singer is a little whiney at times, but not too bad.

The solos on the album are good, but that live solo above is pitiful.

They use to be good. I remember seeing them a couple years ago. Now his voice sucks and they changed their sound.

Compared to Waking the Fallen they are twice as good as they were on that CD. It sounds like the guitarists immersed themselves in lessons and the singer learned to sing. They changed their sound because they improved as musicians and are now playing stuff they weren't capable of on Waking The Fallen. They have progressed; if you don't like the new style that's subjective, but objectively they are better musicians than before.
